One of these days I really am just going to start weeping fire in the middle of somewhere very inappropriate.
seventhe: (Cats: I LIKE THEM)
Cities/States I was in: 9/8 (Akron, OH --> Denver, CO --> Boise, ID --> Las Vegas, NV --> Tusayan (Grand Canyon), AZ --> Las Vegas, NV --> Phoenix, AZ --> Houston, TX --> Lake Charles, LA --> Houston, TX --> Detroit, MI --> Akron, OH)
Different time zones I inhabited: 4
Flights: 7
Drives: 4

In a 14-day period:
- Longest time period in any one time zone: 3 days
- Days on this trip I had to be up at 4 am: 3 (ugh)
- Days I actually got to sleep in: 1
- Days spent hermiting in a hotel room during which I spoke to no one except the Chinese food delivery person: 1
- Days that were technically vacation that I checked my email and worked: 5/7

Suitcase weight: 50 lb
Specific styles of dress contained in suitcase: 6 (formal dress for wedding; casual nice for rehearsal dinner; casual and hot for Vegas; hiking clothes for Grand Canyon; one business casual for plant visit; working casual for plant days)
Computing power brought: 3 pieces (laptop for work; iPad for DOINK; iPhone)

- - -

I won't call it a vacation. I'll call it a trip. It was fun, but it wasn't relaxing. But it was fun. The wedding was gorgeous, Vegas was fun, the Grand Canyon was amazing, and the week of work blew ass like I expected. XD

Maybe I'll put up some photos or something.

I am terrified to go to work tomorrow. Even though I've been checking my email and following work, I know I'm still behind because I haven't been in the office for two weeks. And the biannual meeting with the Japanese Overlords starts Thursday. UGHHHHHHHHHHHH

No wonder I've been playing so much FFXIII. I am in hiding mode.
seventhe: (Ohayo: THAT OTHER GUY)
  • Today is the first day I've worked in 2012 and not had a single meeting. The next after this? 05 March. What the hell.

  • At 620 comments - and growing - I'm pretty sure this is the greatest FF Kissing Battle we've had yet. Even if you're not on a team, come on in and play!
    • I'm writing tons of Final Fantasy / Gundam Wing crossovers. SHOOT ME.

  • So I've been diagnosed with arthritis in my big toe. The injury's a long story; the tl;dr version is that I'm off any kind of high-impact stress on it for 2-3 weeks and I maybe shouldn't run very much in my future also (depends on how it "heals" (since arthritis doesn't exactly, you know, fix itself: HEY CARTILAGE. GROW BACK ALREADY)). On one hand: OH DARN I DON'T LIKE RUNNING ANYWAY. On the other hand: I am a stubborn Taurus fuck and I don't like the idea of my body winning the war against me when I'm only 30 years old. CUE ANGST AND SPACEHEARTING.

  • Oh, and I'm on goddamned prescription drugs again. AGAIN. (No drinking for 2-3 weeks? LIKE FUCK YOU SAY.)

  • It's 20 February and I have yet to do a single goddamn thing for my graduate thesis. I hate school so much.

  • Speaking of not working on grad school: !! My schedule for the next few weekends is like being PUNCHED IN THE FACE WITH AWESOME. It goes like this: DISTANT WORLDS --> BJORK (!!!!!!!!!!) --> possible trip to the plant which is shitty --> PITTSBURGHCON --> LESBIAN GARAGE SALE SHIT SHOW --> Acen --> MY GODDAMNED 30th BIRTHDAY --> Katy's graduation --> CABINCON PART I ("A HOT TUB IS NOT CAMPING"). I am really not leaving my 20s quietly.

  • I cleaned up my tags on DW this afternoon. I'm finally back under 1000. I really need to do the same on LJ, but LJ lacks the AMAZEBALLS "tag merge" tool that Dreamwidth has, for when you type a tag in just a little bit wrong and end up with 3 variants on the tag, "I am a vain fuck." (This is a true story!).

  • The word "amazeballs" was actually in TIME magazine BTW.

  • Zero ships 3x4 is one of the most hilarious things I've read all day. I would easily say "the most hilarious" on any other day but as the other things going on in my email right now are (1) a serious discussion on which crossover troll fic idea is the lube for the other and (2) the creation of an Opera in at least 14 movements about The Shit Show Of Our Lives, there's some stiff competition in my Inbox today. Nevertheless, read that shit.

  • I have not played more than a couple hours of FFXIII. Don't judge me. So far the PS3 has basically been a very expensive way to steam music and Netflix. Winning.

  • Going to rewatch some Sherlock this week. Might have intelligent thoughts about it. Might just reblog more shite on Tumblr.

And that's the news.
seventhe: Rydia (Rydia)
Well, February ended nicely (excellent weekend at Chez [personal profile] lassarina), but I'm hoping the "In like a lion" phrasing applies, because March started off a bit of a whirlwind and I'm hoping there's a little "out like a lamb" in my future.

First: couldn't sleep last night, which was awesome. Not sure what undid me; the 3:00pm coffee in the airport (unusual, as I drink coffee all through my until-6-pm workday), or the general OCD of my brain, or maybe IDK my BFF insomnia again. Kittens were adorable and got the sleep I didn't, at least.

Second: work projects exploding (not literally (this time!)) everywhere. I love workplace wank, but I'm not dumb enough to talk about it unlocked; let's just say today has been interesting. Straaaange things are going on and it is strange and intriguing yet frustrating. Also I think my March is going to suck balls in relation to the sheer number of pounds of polymer I'm personally responsible for. My Marches always seem to suck this way. I don't understand. Ugh ugh ugh. WAH WAH HAS TO WORK FOR LIVING.

Third: Feeling general ridiculous urge to spend moneys. Rina and Kas hath convinced me to get a PSP, but I also want a laptop. Also I saw Dragon Age this weekend and I waaaaaaant. WTF self. Because I need to spend more money on video games I don't have time to play?

Fourth: Today has been such a clusterfuck and I'm really behind on writing. >.> [livejournal.com profile] astrangerenters don't kill me; your fic just turned long last week and I'm hoping you'd rather have a long funny story full of snarky shenanigans than something quick (it is like 10 smallish parts) because that is what has happened to it. My writing to-do list is getting longer by the moment though and I'm almost eagerly awaiting the "HOFUCK Panic Party" I have to have this week/weekend to get certain things completed.

Fifth: I got nothin'.
seventhe: (Squall: dammit)
OH FUCKING HELL I FORGOT THE WORST PART ABOUT SHUTDOWN WEEK. THE PART WHERE BECAUSE THERE IS NO STEAM IN OUR FUCKING BUILDING WE DON'T HAVE ANY FUCKING HEAT. AND WITHOUT ANY FUCKING HEAT THE AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM JUST BELCHES COLD FUCKING AIR BECAUSE NO ONE CAN TURN IT OFF OR DOWN BECAUSE I AM SURROUNDED BY FUCKING ROBOTARD COCKFACES. AND MY OFFICE IS IN A LAB, AND GOD FUCKING FORBID WE CARE ABOUT THE LABS BECAUSE ONLY HOBOS SIT IN THERE.

MY OFFICE IS 57 DEGREES, GUYS. 57 FUCKING DEGREES.

AND IT'S GETTING COLDER!

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT. SERIOUSLY. NO, SERIOUSLY. I WILL NOT DEAL WITH THIS BULLSHIT TODAY. I AM GOING THE FUCK HOME.
seventhe: (Lulu: I Hate You)
First off, I am a bad kitty mommy. I need to learn to change Rydia's litterbox way more often than I am in the habit of doing.

Second, I have a work rant/question, so for those of you who have real jobs, or have worked real jobs, this one's for you...

Although I'd like to state for the record that this does not have anything specific to do with my own job: it is just thoughts I've had, so hey, don't fire me for blogging, jerks. DISCLAIMER!

How come ... you always have the one guy ... that everybody always complains about ... who doesn't do his job / does his job wrong / lies about things / takes credit for other people's work / doesn't listen / has other crap communication skills / fill in the blank ... and everyone knows about it, including the bosses ...

...AND NO ONE DOES ANYTHING ABOUT IT?!

I just don't understand the politics of the workplace, I guess. If someone is difficult to work with, I think they should be called on it. I'm not saying that person needs to be fired or something, but I think the workplace (and the world!) would be a lot better place if people could be fucking honest about how they feel about people without being dicks.

It's called being a grownup!

I always see Person A complaining about how Person B is taking all the credit for their project, or that Person C doesn't ever listen to suggestions anyone else makes, or how Person D is dragging their feet on something in some kind of power struggle, or that Person E isn't doing their part of the work, or that Person F is poisoning Person G behind A's back. And yet Person A isn't ever willing to take the first step and do something positive about it that might actually solve the problem?

Here's how the conversation should go. )

*sigh* I will never understand it, but it's mostly because I don't understand politics, or things like "tact". I tell somebody what I think of them, and if I'm too chicken to do it, I don't go around saying it behind their back because I have no right. Why can't people treat other people like people? WE'RE ALL GROWN UPS!

It makes me wish my job was a comm like [livejournal.com profile] workplace_wank or something. I work with one certain person who would be on it ALL THE TIME.
