That IS really interesting, thanks for sharing. I didn't know much about the background of Irene Adler -- the only Sherlock book I have actually read was Hounds of Baskerville, and I don't necessarily remember a whole lot about it. But it's interesting to think about the translation of a character from one source (written at, frankly, a problematic time for asskicking ladies) into another, and what becomes more or less problematic when you move it. Comments were good too. :P

I'm not sure I remember enough about the ep to say whether or not I am pro- or anti- Irene -- and I'm sure my opinion is a lot more complicated than that! However, I am saddened that the only lady who does have a chance of standing up to Sherlock is a one-episode flash in the pan, and the ladies who do hang around don't really get competent or interesting past the amazing that is John and Sherlock together. I think that's maybe the center of my... gripe? IDK. Thought.
