FINAL FANTASY KISS BATTLE 2021!

HELLO FRIENDS????? Remember those fandoms we all used to be in? and producing things for? Well, baby, it's time for a nostalgia run, so buckle up your chocobos and get ready to roll. We haven't done a Kiss Battle in years and [personal profile] lassarina and I for one think it's TIME TO DO SO.

This event is open to everyone, even if we aren't DW circlefriends! (feel free to friend me too; i promise i'm not crazy that's a lie). If you aren't on DW, you can still play via anon or OpenID!

The Kiss Battle is simple. Players leave prompts in comments under each specific fandom, using generalized fandom nomenclature: a relationship of some sort, and a concept to inspire other players.

  • For romantic relationship kisses, we use X / Y
  • For platonic relationship kisses, we use X & Y
  • Absolutely open to relationships with more than 2 people involved! X / Y / Z (/ A / B ...) welcome to this party!
  • Prompts can be a word, a sentence, an image, a song lyric; it's a suggestion, rather than a request
  • it's a kiss battle! there will be smooches!

Players then go looking for smoochin' prompts they'd like to fill. Fills can be fic, art, interpretive dance, whatever you're inspired to; they can be filled in a responding comment, or as a link (to AO3, tumblr, etc). FILLS GOTTA HAVE A KISS IN 'EM. IT'S A KISS BATTLE. What counts as a "kiss" is up to you, though -- you can be creative!

  • Fills should use the comment header to let people know what the fill is; please use a format like "X / Y, (title), (rating), (any content warnings that might apply)"
    • "Aerith/Tifa, memorial, G"
    • "Cloud/Squall, just in time, R (blood)"
  • Prompts can be filled multiple times! Don't worry if someone got there first; we love Two Cakes up in this event! The more kisses we get, the better!
  • You can fill as anon if you want/need for any reason
  • You can of course crosspost anywhere you'd like

It's a very simple game, and is meant to be played in good faith without anybody being a shitbag about pairings or characters. We're all too old for this.

Comments or Questions?

FANDOM LINKS Fandoms with compilations and expansions should fall into their titled macrofandom. For example:

  • FFXIII also includes FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns (FFXIII-3)
  • FFX also includes X-2
  • FFIV includes the After Years

If you need to specify a certain microfandom / singular canon, please do so in the prompt or in the comment header!

The Sun Would Still Rise (Locke/Celes/Terra, SFW)

It was the worst storm they'd had in months.

Locke was the only one who was above ground for the moment, holed up in one of the old houses and watching the sky for funnel clouds. He was the only one who could see the lightning that flashed, long forked arcs of light from cloud to cloud to ground. The thunder was loud; the children underground would be able to hear that, and were probably huddled in their beds trying to ignore it. Loud noises and flashing lights couldn't have been easy, not with the memories they must still have in the backs of their minds. Terra and Celes were with them, helping them through their fears. Locke would help too, but... sometimes the memories of his own fears were too keen.

He watched the sky, fascinated by the lights; he'd always liked storms, always liked watching them from a safe distance, and that was before he'd realized just how fierce and powerful lightning really was. It wasn't that long ago now, he thought with a certain pang, that he had been able to call power like that, shoot electricity from his fingers as if he were one of Edgar's dynamos. Those days were gone now, and the one who'd lent him that power was resting in peace, his work done. He knew that. Still, he could begin now to understand why so many people throughout the centuries had tried so hard to find magic again; he'd never felt anything else quite like it.

This wasn't magic, of course; this was just the weather, setting its own patterns now that there were no divine or infernal forces to manipulate it. That didn't make it less dangerous. Most of the people in Mobliz still lived underground, and Locke had his own passageway back to the cellar if something did happen. He didn't really need to be up there... he'd just wanted to see the storm, truth be told.

Thank goodness Celes had made it back in time, he thought; he'd been worried since the dark clouds had first appeared in the western sky, that she wouldn't get back from her supply run before the storm hit. But Terra had been calm, had unwaveringly believed that she'd find her way home, or else she'd hear of the storm and hole up in Tzen before coming back. She'd been right; Celes had appeared on the horizon not long after, having somehow gotten her hands on a chocobo-drawn cart to bring everything back. The cart was in one of the houses, hopefully one that would be untouched by the wind, and the chocobo had run off before they could decide what to do with it. Locke hoped it would find a safe place of its own to ride out the storm.

Some time passed. Locke watched the sky, fascinated by the rain and lightning. But the winds, strong as they were, never began to whirl and shape the clouds into a deadly vortex. After a while, when it seemed the worst had passed, he opened the cellar door and started the walk back to their underground home.

Celes heard him coming. She always did. She stepped in front of him, one finger to her lips. Locke nodded in understanding, moving silently - the kids were asleep, he would be quiet. Celes took his arm and led him back to their bedroom, accepting the small kiss he gave the back of her hand with a slight smile. Terra was already there, sitting quietly on their bed.

She smiled as the others came back, gave Locke a kiss on the cheek. "Anything?" she whispered.

"Not yet," he whispered. "How are the kids?"

"They're fine," Celes answered. "A few of them... it took them a while to fall asleep. But they'll be all right."

Locke nodded. He knew which ones - the ones who'd been old enough to remember the Light, young enough to not understand where it had come from and why it was gone now. They'd feel better the next morning, when the sun rose anyway.

Celes joined them on the bed, and Terra gave her a kiss on the forehead, just below her hair. Celes smiled a bit at that, a rare enough sight that only seemed to happen when the three of them were together. "Let's rest while we can," she said. "Before the thunder wakes them again."

"Hoping it won't. Seems like the worst has passed." Still, Locke knows she's right.

The three of them nestle together in the rag-stuffed mattress, covered with quilts made from the remnants of almost any fabric that Terra had been able to scavenge from the destroyed town. Celes had brought back cloth along with the food she'd already brought downstairs, but they'd have to figure out what to do with it later; Locke hoped he remembered enough from his mother and grandfather to put a few things together. Maybe some new clothes for the children... some of them were very quickly growing out of what they had.

It wasn't long before they were all dozing off, Celes' hand warm against his and Terra's head on his shoulder, and his own eyes half-closed as he listened for more thunder. It was going to be all right, he thought. The sun would rise the next morning. The world would still be there when they woke up. Everything was as it should be.

Yeeeeeeee~!

This is such a great little glimpse of safety but not quite safety and survival in the post-Ruin world, and I love the reflections of the past on the present. I love the atmosphere of the storm and on Locke's reflection on magic, and how it blends together.

And I adore the three of them being so comfortable together and the feeling of home here and their working together to take care of it. <3

Thank you~♥
