Goodnight Kiss, T, Aerith/Tifa

Definitely Remake-flavoured Aerti here, though post what we've currently seen in the Remake universe.

Aerith had had plans for tonight. Carefully orchestrated plans so that she and Tifa wouldn't be interrupted, and they haven't been. They haven't seen anyone else they know tonight. Aerith's just never quite found the right moment to make her move.

She'd ordered a delicious dessert to share, but Tifa had asked the server for two spoons and to cut it in half, so no feeding each other. She'd tried to win a cute little toy for Tifa, but those crane catcher games were much harder than they looked!

After that, the gondola over the Golden Saucer had seemed like a perfect romantic setting to get the evening back on track, but that was the problem. It was too romantic! Nothing could beat the one-two combinations of Tifa's hands warm in Aerith's own and Tifa's eyes and hair sparkling all colours of light! The way Tifa kept pointing with their joined hands, the way she said "Look, Aerith!" so eager to share her delight. As if Aerith could look at anything but her.

"I had a great time tonight, Tifa."

"I'm glad. Me, too."

Now they're back at the hotel. Aerith knows she's running out of time, but Tifa is still holding her hands. Tifa is smiling at her.

She gets why Zack used so many corny lines. Faced with a really cute girl, Aerith feels impressed she can even remember corny lines. Or words. Or her own name.

"So... are you going to invite me in?"

"Oh! Of course!" Tifa says, letting go and searching in her pocket for the key to their room.

The creepy décor in their room had been good for Tifa clutching at Aerith's arm earlier, but that's not how Aerith wants to do this. That's not the mood she's looking for.

She doesn't think she's imagined the looks Tifa's given her. But maybe tonight's still not the night. Tifa worked in a bar. There's no way she hasn't heard lines like this, and worse. If she's going to act like none of Aerith's lines are lines, well...

"Thanks, Aerith," Tifa says, right beside her, "for tonight."

Aerith looks up, just as Tifa leans down and--kisses her.

"You said it was a date!" Tifa explains, while Aerith's vocabulary is temporarily down to 'soft' and 'warm' and 'lips'. "And sure, some people talk about 'friend-dates', but you said D-A-T-E, so I thought we were..."

"All night, I've been thinking about the right time to kiss you."

"Now?" Tifa suggests, and then looks up and over Aerith's head, flushing so prettily at her own boldness. "If that's all you wanted, we didn't need to leave the room."

That's part of why Aerith wanted to ask Tifa out tonight. She really wants to kiss the other woman (and more besides), but she wants Tifa to know Aerith thinks she's worth more than just kissing. She's worth time and attention, too. She's worth making plans for.

"Oh? I thought you had fun tonight?"

"I did!" Tifa insists.

Tifa catches her weight when Aerith steps on tip-toe, boosted by her hands on Tifa's shoulders. She's as strong as Aerith knew she would be.

It's not too late to make good memories. The future isn't set in stone.
