Fandom: taking back Valentine's Day since 2008!

So last year bottle_of_shine had a Kissing Battle. The last edition is here (EDITED TO ADD: this is the old battle, not the current one!). It was a lot of fun and might be known around FF-fandom circles as the best Meme ever**.

Pretty much everyone I know is stressed about something, too, so this round of the Kiss Meme Battle honestly couldn't have better timing. (I love you guys) This round is about feeling good, it's about love, and it's also about seeing who can write the most kissy drabbles and ficlets in one week!

This portion of the rules I borrow from Nay, because she explained it well.

Requirements:
  - Kissing. Of any sort, even if it happens to be platonic. Otherwise known as: gen kisses are okay!
  - Put the fandom and pairing in the header of comments with kiss fic! SERIOUSLY. This makes it 300% easier for people to browse (and for me to compile).
Limitations: above the belt (this isn't about porn) and Final Fantasy only (crossovers are cool).

There are many ways to play! Write kisses and post them as comments. Make a list of requests and hope someone will fill them. Write other people's requests and hope they do the same back. (Requests can be filled more than once.) Find other good kisses and squee! EDIT - You can request anonymously, if you want!

This is about love and feeling good and that kind of stuff so people who are stupid about it will get my steel-toes in their ass. WITH LOVE ♥ ♥ ♥

The first thing that Xu does when Seifer walks through the front gates of Balamb Garden is punch him in the face. It doesn't matter that he hasn't been back since the war ended, nearly six months ago, and it certainly doesn't matter that he's completely unarmed; she hits him, hard, his head snapping to the right with the force of the blow.

Well, she's certainly not let up on the strength training while he's been gone.

"You asshole!" she screams, seizing him by the lapels of his tattered coat and shaking him like he's a dog. "You unbelievable, impossible, selfish, egotistical bastard!"

He endures it--hell, he deserves it, but when she starts yelling at him in a language that he doesn't know, Seifer's had enough. He cuts off her verbal assault in the only way that's guaranteed to work, kissing her thoroughly until her hold's barely relaxed on his coat.

"It's nice to see you, too," he says, when she finally breaks away, and Xu hits him again.

And that, he definitely deserves.

It is very much like crack. This one makes me want to know the back-story. It is tantalizing in its hints. I enjoy the way this one is told through Seifer's perspective subtly. I like his casual observations of the unfairness of her hitting him and also his admiration of her strength simultaneously.

Now, under normal circumstances, I'd type out my wibbling noise, but since it consists of a bunch of 'meh's, that makes it sound like I disliked something rather than I liked it enough to wibble over it. In this case, that is so far from the truth that they are even on the same continent.

BASICALLY, I LOVED THIS! It was extremely cute, and totally Seifer, but in the good way no one seems to write him. He's kind of a jerk, which gets neglected in a lot of Seifer/Rinoa fics, but he's always sweet in his own way, which gets neglected in the rest. SO YOU WIN! Also, Rinoa was perfectly, perfectly Rinoa, and the concept was just too cute for words. Seriously, I love your work forever and ever!

Rinoa sighs loudly, rolling over on her side and adjusting her bikini strap. Her beach towel is covered with sand, and as she watches Seifer sleeping next to her, one arm flung over his face to shield it from the sun, she's tempted to stand up and shake it all over him. Anything to get him to wake up already.

"Seifer," she says, poking his side with her finger. He flinches slightly, but doesn't make any effort to open his eyes.

"Seifer, you're the most boring beach person I've ever met," she complains to no one in particular, flopping over on her back. Seriously, what the hell kind of guy invites a girl to the beach, and then sleeps the whole time?

"There's a fastitocalon behind you, Seifer," Rinoa says loudly, turning her head to face him. "It's going to bite you, right on the ear."

"Mmph," is Seifer's only reply. He uncovers his face and rubs his nose.

Rinoa sits up and kneels beside him. "If you get weird tan lines on your face I'm going to laugh at you, and it'll serve you right for being boring and sucky and--"

Suddenly Seifer's sitting up too, and before Rinoa knows what's what, his arms are around her and he's pushing her down against her towel. His lips touch hers, and they're warm and salty.

When he releases her, he gives her a smug little smile. "Boring and sucky, huh?" He chuckles, then lies back down in the sand next to her, closing his eyes.

"What the hell? What is it?" he said, pushing himself up on the bed.

She was sitting beside him, looking at a little white strip. "I'm pregnant."

Jecht took a long minute to reply. She wondered if he was still drunk from the night before.

"I guess we'll have to get married, then," he said finally.

"You mean it?"

"Sure, why not?" It wasn't quite the romantic proposal she'd hoped for, but she was thrilled enough to lean over and kiss him, letting the paper strip fall to the floor.

"Do you have lips?" she says. Vivi is, as usual, completely taken aback by her forwardness.

"Of ... of course I do, Miss Eiko," he responds, stumbling over his words, trying to think of what a person is supposed to say in such a situation. Is it impolite to talk about your lips in public? Are they a taboo subject? Vivi isn't quite sure, as usual. "How else would I talk? Or eat?"

"Bobby Corwen doesn't have lips," she replies staunchly, swinging her legs over the bridge's edge. Vivi would like to tell her not to do that - it's a long way down and heights scare him - but he can't force the words to come, no matter how hard he tries. "Neither do the Moogles, at least not ones like people. I can't see your mouth, how the heck was I supposed to know?"

Vivi doesn't know how to respond to this sharp reply. He feels a little like crying. Is Eiko angry at him now? Was that the wrong thing to say? He's just about to get up and run away when she plants her lips against his own, almost perfectly on-target.

It's the first kiss Vivi has ever experienced. Eiko's lips are very soft, and she smells, not unpleasantly, of dust and strawberries. When at last she pulls away he is almost disappointed.

"It's ... kinda like kissing feathers," she says, brow furrowed thoughtfully. Vivi isn't sure if this is a good thing or a bad one until she reaches over and takes one of his hands. That makes everything okay again. "We should do it more often."

And with the lips his friend cannot see, Vivi smiles.

They had slipped onto the salvage ship just before dawn, bribing the captain to look the other way; now, some hours later, they were far enough away from shore that Braska felt secure enough to come up on the deck. His wife stood alone at the rail, staring off in the direction of Bikanel, its sandy coast a golden sliver in the distance.

His wife. Thinking those words still gave him a shiver of joy, along with stab of sadness at all she'd given up for him. He came up behind her and placed his hands on her shoulders. "I'm sorry," he murmured.

She shook her head. "It's not your fault my brother is a stubborn old bigot who won't listen to a word I say."

"Still." He sighed into her strawberry-blond hair, its familiar desert-clean scent already tinged with salt from the sea-spray. "I'm sorry it had to be this way, that we had to leave without his blessing, that I've taken you from your home to live among strangers."

She turned around and looked up at him with a smile. "No regrets, okay? I knew what I was doing when I said yes. Besides, it doesn't matter. Wherever we end up, I'll be home. Home is where you are." Laying a palm lightly on his cheek, she pulled him into a kiss, her mouth warm and sweet on his as he ran one hand down her back and tangled the other into her hair, and he knew that they were going home together.

Zell looked up, his heart pounding. He knew that voice. He'd listened in on her conversations just to hear it. He spent almost all his free time here in the library doing nothing but glancing at her at every opportunity.

"Yeah?" he squeaked.

She was rubbing the back of her neck, just like he did when he was uncomfortable. "It's just... I mean, you're in here every day reading the same book. You know I could check it out for you, right?"

"What? Oh, yeah!" Zell laughed a little too loudly. "I just, you know, I like the... the chairs in here."

She looked puzzled. "You do? But they're so uncomfortable."

Zell had to admit that was true.

"Also," she said, and she was smiling, now, "did you know that you're reading upside down?"

Zell flushed. "Oh," he said.

She laughed, and before he knew it she was leaning in and oh god was she kissing him? Oh, Hyne, her lips were so soft and warm and why was she kissing him what if his breath stunk or maybe he wasn't doing it right or his lips were too dry or too wet and maybe -

"I'm Anne," she said when she pulled away, holding out a hold for him to shake. "You want to go to dinner sometime?"
