So! In the upcoming year of 2013, [personal profile] lassarina and I will be playing through each Final Fantasy game, in order! One game every month! Moving on at the end of every month! And we'll be blogging our thoughts, our meta, our deconstructions and fannish feels - and once a month I will, apparently, be drunk!live!blogging something horrible - and recording everything here: [community profile] moogle_university, as a public record of our gamer cred (for Rina) / shame (for me).

I've posted an intro here, if you want to know a little bit about my reasons for doing this project and how excited I am to have had this awesome idea. I invite anybody who wants to watch/join the comm -- part of what I love about Final Fantasy is the community built out of its fannish love, so everybody's welcome. It would be awesome if people helped to spur us on or even asked questions as we got the project rolling.

So, yeah. That's a thing.

So, my friends! I have a PS3. I have had a PS3 for a year. It is the most expensive Netflix-streaming device in the history of electronics. I only own one game for it and that is FFXIII (at least I have beaten that *SHAME FOREVER*). Pretty much [livejournal.com profile] safety_caesars and I use it to watch horrible things on Netflix and the single BluRay that's in this house right now (Sherlock) which isn't even mine and, you know what, this is embarrassing enough. I'll stop.

Anyway. I'm looking for some video game recs for PS3.

I thought about FFXIII-2, but for secret reasons that are secret I am actually looking for something slightly different from Final Fantasy, for next year. However, if you're wondering what kind of games I enjoy (aka: will actually play for more than 4 minutes), the answer is: Final Fantasy type RPGs, and Plants vs Zombies.

I've played Halo and Halo II, but I'm not a huge shooty-type fan -- they were more fun to play with friends, and I like games that are I am exhausted from work and want to stare at a pretty thing and maybe make fire happen type games, not social ones. I adore stuff like Civilization, Age of Empires, Command & Conquer, even SimCity, stuff like that; but most of what I've played has been for computer, and it seems to be a more intuitive way to play those kinds of games? Uhhhhhhhh................ I'M NOT A GAMER, OKAY

But I'd like to have a couple more fun things to dabble in and around. So throw some ideas at me!

HECK YEAH

DOINK 2012 IS LIVE.

right now I'm just reading / looking through and basking in another wonderful year of fabulous, amazing, awesome content. I don't have the brains to do anything more than leave Kudos right now, because I'm coming right off the back of the least relaxing vacation of all time (not *bad*, just not relaxing), I've gotten 10 hours of sleep total in the last two nights, and I'm slowly but surely working through a 12-pack of beer in a Houston hotel room for recovery -- so if you get a Kudos from me, it's not an insult and I'll be back to comment as soon as I can string words into a sentence.

COME PLAY COME PLAY COME PLAY

edit: If you can't come play, please at least take a second and give us a shout-out -- with [community profile] ff_press still down, the only way we have to advertise is word-of-mouth (or journal, in this case). There's easy code - with ~banners!~ in so many colors! - you can just copy-paste here. Even if you can't participate, helping to spread the word over the next week or so would be awesome.

Not sure if I've mentioned this yet, but [profile] safety_caesars and I are (re)playing FFX. Playing in her case, replaying in my case.

First off, I'll say: I like FFX. I actually like FFX-2, also, and I'm well aware liking both at the same time is Fandom Shun material. I'm certainly not saying either game is perfect, but I enjoy them. I've replayed FFX myself two or three times, and I've started FFX-2 about a dozen times (I can never get through it because the story is much too non-linear for someone with my schedule; I have a month where I can't play anything and then I come back, can't remember where the fuck I was, and the story isn't giving me any guidance, so I have to start over and swear a lot).

Protip: if you follow all of the gasping, grunting, sighing, breathing, exclaiming, and other non-verbal personal noises that are made in dialogue with "he/she came", the voice acting is instantly improved, and the game becomes hilarious.

Thoughts here, in case they get long. )

Anyway, that's where we are now, and those are my thoughts. More as I go!

HEY EVERYBODY

Every year we want to do a little something to keep Doink happy and active during its off-season. Usually we try to encourage people to create Chocobo Down -- look at that prompt list -- but this year we're trying a little something extra.

It's a team-based challenge: CHOCOBO RACING.

Basically you sign up to be on a team, and any Chocobo Down you create will give your team points. Every month we'll have a theme, and if you create Chocobo Down that fits the theme, you get even more points for your team!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo if you want to play, read up on how it works, and then you can sign up for your team here (DW) or here (LJ) - you only have to sign up once.

[personal profile] renay is the captain of TEAM TONBERRY, and I am the captain of TEAM CACTUAR. I'm just saying. You don't have to be on Team Cactuar. That's not why I'm posting this at all. Of course. Nope. You can be on whatever team you want. Really.

ALL I'M SAYING IS CACTUAR RULES
