So usually I keep the really serious business out of this journal, but guess what: I've been riled out of my usual apathy-and-avoidance today.

Please take a minute to read Senator Bernie Sanders' (I-Vermont) lovely petition about Shared Sacrifice. I am going to quote the same bit that has been going around, because I think it meaningful:

Mr. President, please listen to the overwhelming majority of the American people who believe that deficit reduction must be about shared sacrifice. The wealthiest Americans and the most profitable corporations in this country must pay their fair share. At least 50 percent of any deficit reduction package must come from revenue raised by ending tax breaks for the wealthy and eliminating tax loopholes that benefit large, profitable corporations and Wall Street financial institutions. A sensible deficit reduction package must also include significant cuts to unnecessary and wasteful Pentagon spending.

I would ask all of my friends who also think that corporations paying nothing in taxes and loving it all the way to the bank, while the lower and middle classes suffer, is pretty unfair - please sign the petition on the right hand side of this page.

Right now the petition has 80,000 signatures. I would love to see more. Because that's a lot of bullshit and I am sick of swallowing it.

I don't do politics either, but it's ridiculous that there are tax breaks for yachts and I can barely afford my medicine. :/

i agree completely and i had NO problem at all in signing the petition. there were 81,000 other signatures when i added my name. :D

Some (okay, most) days I feel like the only antidote to modern American politics is marathon sessions of West Wing.

I'm nostalgic for a fictional era. -_-
