Date: 2007-10-15 07:09 pm (UTC)I always pictured Rosa during the game as the type that wouldn't be easily seduced to the dark side by magic and words. It felt more like something where she'd need a different past, or some type of drug/plant, to make her become evil.
I DID think of an AU once for her that I never did, that's similar! In that idea I had, Golbez was going to assign Valvalis to more or less torment Rosa with the intent of "breaking her," since the time it takes Cecil to rescue Rosa is a VERY long time. The reason it would have been AU is that the end of the story was going to have a surprise twist where Rosa and Valvalis switched roles. In other words, Rosa would have been turned into Valvalis, and Valvalis "became" Rosa with the intent of her acting as a spy in the party for Golbez.
I didn't follow up on it because of lack of motivation, logical flaws (why have Valvalis act as a spy when she can just kill them all in the middle of the night?), a slight personal feeling that it would be disrespectful to Rosa as a character (I have too-high idealism for her, so I don't think she'd crack easily), and I just plain felt awkward about the whole idea of writing about her being tormented like that.
Oh, and the points you make in the second paragraph are very true. :) I think that a story like that would really highlight how important she really is to the party in the original game; a lot of people overlook her worth because they hold more value in if a character can do a ton of damage.
