Fandom: taking back Valentine's Day since 2008!

So last year bottle_of_shine had a Kissing Battle. The last edition is here (EDITED TO ADD: this is the old battle, not the current one!). It was a lot of fun and might be known around FF-fandom circles as the best Meme ever**.

Pretty much everyone I know is stressed about something, too, so this round of the Kiss Meme Battle honestly couldn't have better timing. (I love you guys) This round is about feeling good, it's about love, and it's also about seeing who can write the most kissy drabbles and ficlets in one week!

Final Fantasy Kissing Battle: Valentine's Edition!***

This portion of the rules I borrow from Nay, because she explained it well.

Requirements:
  - Kissing. Of any sort, even if it happens to be platonic. Otherwise known as: gen kisses are okay!
  - Put the fandom and pairing in the header of comments with kiss fic! SERIOUSLY. This makes it 300% easier for people to browse (and for me to compile).
Limitations: above the belt (this isn't about porn) and Final Fantasy only (crossovers are cool).

There are many ways to play! Write kisses and post them as comments. Make a list of requests and hope someone will fill them. Write other people's requests and hope they do the same back. (Requests can be filled more than once.) Find other good kisses and squee! EDIT - You can request anonymously, if you want!

This is about love and feeling good and that kind of stuff so people who are stupid about it will get my steel-toes in their ass. WITH LOVE ♥ ♥ ♥

I'm thinking about a week for this, so whoever writes the most kisses in that time wins!

Honestly, she's very good at reading people. She knows when Rinny and Squall fight because she can pick up the vibes they both give off, and the way they avoid public areas like the plague. She knows when something big and bad is going on politics-wise because Quistis has a tendency to stare vacantly past the lid of her coffee cup. She knows when Irvy is going to try and ask her to the movies again (and subsequently when she's going to have to think of a very good reason to be very busy that night). She's good at reading people.

But Seifer is hard. He doesn't do things like the others do, and he distances himself so far she can't pick up on his normal habits and actions. And she doesn't quite know what to think when he swings his gunblade at the T-Rexaur looming over her as her magic piddles out and she realizes she doesn't have as many spells stocked as she thought she did. After all, where had he even come from, anyway?

Best not to think too far into it, she thinks. Move along like always, that's the best idea.

But then he goes and dumps a piece of chocolate cake on the table in front of her during lunch, and she knows that it's the last piece because the line for the dessert buffet dissipated quite suddenly, and she doesn't know what that means, either.

Of course, when he pulls her aside (rather harshly) outside the second floor classroom and kisses her, it's hard not to put two and two together.

Even if he does walk away afterwards like nothing had happened at all.

Besides, Selphie is awfully good at reading people.

Irvine felt a bullet whiz by his head and shot back quickly before hiding back behind the wall for protection. The shooting stopped, and a thought hit him.

"My hat!" Irvine squealed, although he never admit he made such a noise.

He took off his hat and looked it over before snuggling it to his chest and kissing it.

"Irvine...?" Selphie's voice called from behind him.

Irvine opened his eyes and pulled his hat back on quickly. "...yes?"

Selphie made a face. "Were you kissing your hat...?" Selphie questioned, and Irvine started to walk away.

He turned to her. "This never happened," he stated then grinned. "Were ya jealous?"

Selphie looked indignant. "Pffft, who'd be jealous of a stupid hat!" she shouted as she walked off.

When she was gone, he took off the hat and kissed it again. "Aw, baby, she didn't mean it. Anyone would be jealous of you," Irvine said to the inanimate object as he placed it back on his head and walked back to the rest of the group.

FFVIII: Irvine/Hat

Irvine was halfway out of the pool before he realized his clothes were missing.

He looked around incredulously, first left, then right. He had left them piled neatly right here, pants and shirt and briefs wrapped in his jacket, but they sure as hell weren't sitting there now. The sanctity of the Training Centre had been violated. Somebody had done the unthinkable - not only had they found Irvine's super-special-secret-swimmin'-hole, the fiend had also stolen every stitch of his clothing to boot.

... Well, almost every stitch, anyway.

Irvine's hat hung from a branch about ten paces to the right, swaying slightly in the artificial breeze. If he could get to it, Irvine could at least cover up his weddin' tackle (had to leave some surprise for the ladies of Garden, after all) and not get severely penalized for obscenity when a hall monitor inevitably saw him.

It was a long way back to the dorms for a naked cowboy. A very long way. This was his only chance.

Irvine took a deep breath, did his best to ignore the goosebumps breaking out all over his bare flesh, and plunged out of the water. He raced across the clearing, looking and feeling precisely as silly as every naked running man since the beginning of pants. Nine paces ... eight ... seven ... almost there ... just a little further ...

Some folks might have found it silly how Irvine gave the crown of his hat a big sloppy smacker before slapping it over his junk. Those people had never been caught bare-ass naked in public before.

And through it all Selphie snapped her photos in a steady, unending stream.

Wakka loved his Blitzball, loved it like Auron loved booze and Rikku loved stealing Auron's booze. So fond was he of the inanimate plastic sphere he even occasionally gave it a quick peck on its shining synthetic skin. Considering how some of the other Blitzball players treated their own balls, Wakka did not consider his behavior in the least bit strange.

He was doing so one day, pointedly ignoring the looks his friends were giving him, when he noticed a line of very tiny, very fine writing, just become visible on the worn spot where his lips had brushed so many times. It was hard to make out - Wakka had never been the greatest reader in the world anyways - and he was even more dismayed to find that it was in Al Bhed.

Grudgingly - very, very grudgingly - Wakka took his baby to Rikku and asked for a translation. When she stopped laughing long enough to tell him, he first called her a liar, then dropped the ball on the ground at her feet like it was one of Ifrit's testicles.

Better extremely late than never:

Vaan and his friends were promised a fete after their battles were over, and the guests of the airship delivered in a big way. Wine flowed like a fountain, and drunken, joyful songs rang out through the saloon.

Larsa felt an arm wrapped around his waist. Penelo kissed him on the cheek.

"I'm so glad you're here with us," Penelo whispered to him. Larsa blushed.

Vaan stood next to them, with a somewhat displeased look on his face. The young sky pirate felt that same twinge of jealousy as when they met Velis' ghost.

Penelo looked over her shoulder, and pulled Vaan into their huddle. Penelo kissed Vaan's forehead, as the three young people held each other in their arms. They laughed, foreheads against each other. In that moment, rank vanished. There were no emperors nor sky-pirates--just good friends.
