Mobile Game Monday

and we're back to Mobile Game Mondays, where you too can take an entire week off because your fibro brain can't even manage smashing fingers on your phone screen!

[FFBE] - i kind of burned out on BE last week. the week(s) before, i finished up the story chapter 1 (and immediately fed that 100% moogle to one of my Kunshiras for dat sweet TMR). With all the other events and everything it was a bit too much. plus, i really didn't have anything new from the anniversary fest: i managed to only pull dupes of the two CG characters i already had, Lotus Mage Fina and Purp Drank Lasswell. I was hoping for Sakura, would have loved Lid or Nichol, but didn't land any of them. Didn't land Awakened Rain or Hot Dad Raegen this week either; my last 5* pulls have been the CG dupes, my THIRD Kunshira, and a Marie. This means I'm lined up for 7* meta, I guess, and Marie seems like a potential savior for harder battles, but nothing new and explode-y makes Sev a sadface.

because the reddit never stops talking about it -- here's the thing about Lid and Jake: they tried to have two different things and just failed overall. it could have gone into some more serious characterization: Lid grows up and recognizes her feelings, Jake either changes his lady-loving ways or lets her down lightly, either way, good development all around. I would have actually been happy with something introspective like that!

the problem is they also tried to insert this 90s-anime-style humor, with the dropkicks and the smacking with a hammer and the absurd flirting and insulting, from an age where those cartoony kinds of running gag were "cute". and not only is it frigging 2018, when somebody hitting someone with a giant hammer doesn't quite carry the joke like it used to, but it completely invalidates anything being taken serious out of it.

Anyway, it's back to the grind, I guess: finally finished TTerra's enhancements (YES!!), so focusing on Wilhelm's enhancements now (farming the story event crystal stages). Will eventually start Ch2. Should probably start considering the really hard shit?

[FFRK] - also kind of noped out on this last week (it was a bad week). I missed a couple events completely because i just couldn't brain. sadface! so today i autoed my way through most of the FFIX, to make sure i got it done.

need to add my latest SBs to my spreadsheet, then i need to really spend some motes - 3* and 4* at least (not everyone needs 5*) and level some more folks up to 99. it's time to get cracking on 4* magicites, ugh, i keep saying it but i've only beat Midgarsormr (Earth) because my Fujin is mad stacked and can carry the whole thing with an Entruster. I should be able to do the same on some others if I plan it properly.

[LN] - again, also burned out a bit there. i'm back to doing dailies, and i'll continue the story soon. i get a little fed up going for S on certain levels and ending up with a pile of silly accessories and shit instead of getting to make a cool-ass outfit - but there are still lots of cool suits to grind for, and im also okay with that...

FFBE - That's a bummer that you've only got dupes lately. :( I've had better luck: I got Daddy in three tickets and Awakened Rain in about 18. I'm having fun with the item enhancement dungeon, though my results haven't been too good. Well, my first one was: I got a total of ATK+20% on Sephiroth's katana! But I've been trying to get a dagger with High Tide on it for Nichol and have just gotten HP, MP, and SPR boosts instead.

I need to do the cryst farming dungeons if only to get the lapis. There's really nothing I want to enhance right now.

As for Lid and Jake, I had thoughts about them here. In a nutshell: their relationship is gross, and I didn't like their short stories at all.

FFRK - I managed to do a level 90 dungeon! I was all proud of myself. I'm doing the short-term dungeons that I can manage. I swapped out Setzer for Zidane due to the FFIX event, and I'm loving him. I have some gear for him, the one that gives Solution 9 and another that gives a materia. I still don't play this game heavily, but I do enjoy what I do play in it.

Mobius - I almost mainlined it Friday night in an attempt to finish the FFXII event, but I just had too much left to do, so alas, didn't finish. I think a FFX event is coming next? Waiting for it to drop.

Star Ocean: Anamnesis - I've played this a bit. I need to seriously level my characters so I can do the limited time events, which right now feel like they are beyond me. They're going to do a crossover with FFBE so I'm looking forward to that dropping and pulling Lasswell (most important) and Rain (second important) when that happens. Otherwise I need to get back into this game, I've only logged in for daily rewards for a few days, but I've been busy knitting and playing FFBE.

Congrats on your level 90 dungeon! Synergy is huge (it's worth about 15 levels, I think we calculated?) so I'm glad you have some Zidane shiny :)

FFBE - i had great luck getting 23% MAG on a Mateus Malice, but then my next couple tries were pretty RNG. Sadface. need more orbs.

i do agree with your post, too! i think they were trying for a specific type of humor (a la, like, sailor moon in the 90s) and had a HARD miss which made is so gross. as a writer i'm of course looking at the lost potential to tell a good story about Jake's womanizing and Lid's immaturity, but FFBE must have used up all of their romantic feelings writing Lasswell/Rain. (WHICH IS OKAY) i haven't finished their short stories yet but they both seem really immature and wanky so far, so i'm not exactly motivated to finish them.

RK - also congrats! the farther you get, the farther you can do next time. also, zidane is pretty boss - does a lot of damage very fast, especially if you have a SB for him.

i also saw the Star Ocean collab raid in FFBE... don't know anything about the game, tbh, but yay raid?

Now that my back is almost back in working order, I can comment!

Fate / Grand Order has become the story of me using my 2,000 daily Friend Points to build up my Craft Essences, since the number of AP I need to use to make any real progress in leveling up my Heroic Spirits is annoying. It also means I have to handle the story one inch at a time. ... If I did not love the Fate franchise, I might find this to be a real slog.

Fire Emblem Heroes keeps throwing new summoning banners at me (e.g. the Ylissean Travelers banner, featuring four new characters I have long been hoping to see in the game), plus 20 free Orbs, so I decided to have one last go at the first summer banner before it disappears tomorrow. Luck happened to be on my side, since I pulled Summer Cordelia. ("A knight in a swimsuit. Unusual, I know.") This is a good pick, since, unlike her vanilla version, it looks like her (and not Cor-derp-lia). Next chance I get, I am going to retry the second summer banner in the hopes of getting Summer Camilla, but I suspect I have already burned up all my good fortune. Ah, well. All in good fun!

Memoria Freese is also in the midst of its summer event, but I doubt I am going to get to see all of that, since it requires a ton of item farming to unlock different phases of each event, and my patience is finite. I will do what I can, but my project of choice is building up my first party for the main story. (There are chapters that recommend being Level 80 ... in a game where the maximum base level is 60.) Regardless, I am enjoying the characters immensely, and the time for fanfic is swiftly approaching.

Star Ocean: Anamnesis has its warts (e.g. a tiny roster, none of the characters having their original voice actors, being published by Square Enix, etc.), but is enjoyable enough. Not going to spend any money on this one, but it is generous enough that I do not have to. I picked Myuria for my headline character (... since there are no Star Ocean 2 characters present in the game as of yet), and people are quite happy to borrow her and give me Support Gems. Already cleared Chapters 1 and 2 (of 3, as of this posting). The game has a leisurely pace, and that is fine by me.

The AP Cost vs Reward calculation in F/GO is why I basically haven't played in a month, I think :/ it's frustrating.

I'm sitting on so many apples, actually, but I tried to do the summer event today and I'm just so off-put by the art and the ~teehee~ (and that's not new, of course, but right now it's hitting me hard), and I'm considering just walking away.

Then again, I was cranky and in pain this entire week, which probably isn't a great way to make decisions.

Well, there's definitely a fair bit of teehee in this event, and in FGO in general, which is fine if you're the target audience (young, single Japanese guys), but I can see how it can be tiresome for others. Mrs. Samu and I think it's cute and silly, but that's us.

there's a Star Ocean collab coming up in FFBE, and I wish I knew more about the game and the characters. but then again i need another mobile game like i need another back problem.

I have ... very strong opinions where the Star Ocean series is concerned, to put it mildly. Anamnesis does not bug me too much, though.

There is also a corresponding Brave Exvius collab coming up in SOA, but I do not know the time frame on that.

I'm trying to care about any of the damn phone games and mostly not succeeding, I think because I burnt myself the hell out on BE getting those six 80K moogles. I think it's time to back off and do the plots instead.

i hit that same point last week, lol. RK summerfest + BE anniversary was all a bit much. definitely time to refocus.
