FINAL FANTASY KISS BATTLE 2022!!!

well HELLO FRIENDS????? after MUCH delay which is MY OWN FAULT, i am here to present to you the tiny fandom event of the year: Final Fantasy Kiss Battle 2022!!

This event is open to everyone, even if we aren't DW circlefriends! (feel free to friend me too; i promise i'm not crazy that's a lie but at least i'm sometimes funny). If you aren't on DW, you can still play via anon or OpenID!

The Kiss Battle is simple. Players leave prompts in comments under each specific fandom, using generalized fandom nomenclature: a relationship of some sort, and a concept to inspire other players.

• For romantic relationship kisses, we use X / Y
• For platonic relationship kisses, we use X & Y
• Absolutely open to relationships with more than 2 people involved! X / Y / Z (/ A / B ...) welcome to this party!
• Prompts can be a word, a sentence, an image, a song lyric; it's a suggestion, rather than a request
• it's a kiss battle! there will be smooches!

Players then go looking for smoochin' prompts they'd like to fill. Fills can be fic, art, interpretive dance, whatever you're inspired to; they can be filled in a responding comment, or as a link (to AO3, tumblr, etc). FILLS GOTTA HAVE A KISS IN 'EM. IT'S A KISS BATTLE. What counts as a "kiss" is up to you, though -- you can be creative!

• Fills should use the comment header to let people know what the fill is; please use a format like "X / Y, (title), (rating), (any content warnings that might apply)"
  
  • "Aerith/Tifa, memorial, G"
  • "Cloud/Squall, just in time, R (blood)"
• Prompts can be filled multiple times! Don't worry if someone got there first; we love Two Cakes up in this event! The more kisses we get, the better!
• You can fill as anon if you want/need for any reason
• You can of course crosspost anywhere you'd like

It's a very simple game, and is meant to be played in good faith without anybody being a shitbag about pairings or characters. We're all too old for this.

FANDOM LINKS Fandoms with compilations and expansions should fall into their titled macrofandom. For example:

• FFXIII also includes FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns (FFXIII-3)
• FFX also includes X-2
• FFIV includes the After Years

If you need to specify a certain microfandom / singular canon, please do so in the prompt or in the comment header!

I'm Dee, I'm older than I act, and always confused by one thing or another. Sometimes I squee, sometimes I write, and a lot of times I just blather on.

I got into Final Fantasy in 2002 when I snagged a copy of the PC version of FF8 off of Ebay. I fell in love with it, and it remains my favorite FF. I've also played VI, IX, X, and X-2, and really like them all (yes, even X-2! For all its silliness, that game has some great dramatic moments).

Fave FF characters: Rinoa, Relm, Celes, Lulu.
Fave FF ships: Rinoa/Squall, Rinoa/Quistis, DARYL/SETZER, Lulu/Auron

Over the past few years I've dabbled in a few different fandoms, but right now I'm currently obsessed with Transistor and The Blue Castle.

Ah, thanks, I'll add back!

The thing I've loved most* about FFV is, there's all this lore that never quite made it in the game and is instead dispersed over multiple books, cards, and so on. Being raised by an archaeologist, I've found the investigation and translation work delightful.

Also, I actually really love DFFOO--it's like all those early 2000s crossover fics that were shamelessly cheesy, with bonus voice acting.

This is wonderful work! I could really believe it as their first meeting. Even at this early stage you can see the foundations of their respect for each other; both Balthier and the man at the bar are interested in Fran, but their approaches feel fundamentally different because Balthier views her as an equal.

I also enjoy that Balthier basically goes 'there's the potential for an interesting conversation here, I'm not necessarily on the pull, but it's not like I'm not going to kiss back'.

I do think Balthier is genuinely more interested in the potential for conversation (and that if she'd told him to fuck off, he would have), but he's certainly open to other opportunities should they present themselves. He's a pirate, after all. ;D

It was really fun to wind back the clock and imagine what their early beginnings might have looked like. So glad you think it rings true to their dynamic!

OH, this is marvelous; I love the way Balthier approaches her, and the details like Fran's sense of smell, and also Fran doing crime before Balthier even gets there. So good.

I like to think he follows her to Altissia and he's there when all that goes down. Can't protect her at that point but he can make sure she's not alone. (And then Luna and Nyx can have a ghost wedding. Because they deserved better.)
