THIS MEME KICKS ASS. And pretty much proves that I am an F-list stalker but I wanted it so bad!

Please amuse me now that my finals are out of the way and I am up to my eyeballs in work! PLEASE!

Choose a character from a fandom that I know--video game, movie, book, tv show, etc.--and I'll answer the questions below.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)
7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone who's new to the fandom?
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

CELES. Or maybe Rydia. Take your pick.

p.s. your layout is brokened for me - entry text shows up at the bottom of really long tag list.

Celes! (possible FFVI spoilers?)

NO CELES ICONS so I will use Quistis who is also blond CLOSE ENOUGH RIGHT

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
Um. I love Celes. I loved her the second she came into my party and I loved her from then on. I am always drawn to female characters in games, and the fact that she was a knight! with a sword! who also cast magic! and basically kicked ass! - it was almost too much awesome for me.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
I would say so. FFVI is unique in the way it ties together a lot of different plotlines into one major storyline, but Celes is a very important character in the first half; in the second half, she's basically the main character until you get a full party's worth of people back.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
Yes, and again no. I'm not sure about 'relating' to Celes, in the sense that (1) I'm not a general / military-type person at all and (2) never been experimented on or anything. But in the sense of being the only female in a male-dominated field and the attraction of going to desperate lengths to prove yourself? YES. The fight of finding yourself, not who other people say you are, and then the fight of being that self? YES.
As for being emotionally intriguing? HELL YES. Finding a sense of morality you thought you'd lost and paying the price for that discovery? Having that open-door lead to emotions you thought you'd locked away forever? The gain and then loss of magic? The extensive potential for PTSD? Um, yeah, here come 1,000,000 words on that.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
FFVI is still one of my favorite games of all time, despite the fact that I haven't played it in years. I love this fandom.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
- I love Celes/Locke, because of all the potential fallout and yet the definite potential for something that would save them both. I don't really think I have to say much to you about this. You know my feelings on this ship. XD
- I even like Celes/Setzer as an alternate ship, but more in the casual "finding freedom, finding your place" sort of thing- I don't think it would last, but the idea is comforting.
- I also really, really like the interactions of Celes/Terra, but less as a ship and more involving the two of them overcoming the trauma in their pasts together. Although I certainly wouldn't mind the two of them together romantically either. But as a platonic relationship, I think there's a huge draw for me in Celes/Terra, mostly because they're both so flawed and have so much to learn.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)
The only thing I can think of is during the ending scene - her fall, and Locke saving her - and the only reason I'd change that is because fanbrats use it to make her a weak, needy female character who needs her uberknight Locke to save her!

7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
Well, Celes doesn't seem the type to make casual friends, until perhaps after the game when she has started to become more open and 'human'. So this is kind of a moot point?

LOL COMMENT LIMIT

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?
She's certainly one of my favourite female characters. I don't deal with her much in fandom, I'll admit, but it doesn't mean I don't like her!

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone who's new to the fandom?
I would probably not say much, because Celes has an actual story that you have to let unfold before you seriously form your opinion on her. But I would be waiting with bated breath to see that person's opinion!

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
LOL WHAT FANBASE. Well, Celes/Locke is a pretty popular pairing, so I'd say yes.

Leo/Celes = definite YYYY! I normally don't think about it because when I think of ships, I'm prejudiced towards post-game ships, and Leo is, uh, unavailable post-game. But I love the idea of two soldiers, with morality, finding each other in the middle of the Empire.

RYDIA! (FFIV spoilers?)

Date: 2007-12-13 04:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] first-seventhe.livejournal.com
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
Rydia is my first and foremost Final Fantasy love. I loved her as a child, I loved her more as an adult. She's so powerful, and I love powerful girl characters. And she's got such spirit - optimistic and cheerful, yet snarky and short-tempered as well. She spoke to me.
Plus, I still maintain that she is hands-down one of the most powerful FF characters of all time. Why do you think from then on, all Summoners were given White Magic? Think about it.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
She's not a 'main' character, but she's part of the initial event that starts the plot moving, and she saves the party in a later event, so you certainly can't ignore her effects on the plot at all.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
YYYY. Emotionally, I love Rydia's struggles - forgiveness, coming to terms with power, overlooking people's differences for a larger cause, the entire thing with the Summon Monsters. I can imagine Rydia finds it hard to fit in sometimes, especially with her upbringing and heritage vs the fact that she's surrounded by nobility, and that in a way is something I relate to very much - being the odd one out, not knowing what's going on, feeling like the world is played by unseen rules, etc.
I love her emotional trauma, and how she defeats it and/or learns to live with it to come back and help the party. I love her whole story, and post-game she has so much potential.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
FFIV will always be my favorite fandom, mostly because it was my first, and there's that nostalgic feeling I get when thinking about playing it with my brother. I could - and will, soon, once Nay has FFIV - ramble for hours about how you have to look at this game through different eyes, since it was really the "first" FF game in the US.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Who DON'T I ship her with?
- I love Rydia/Edge. I think their entire relationship would follow such an interesting path. Edge would have to change, and Rydia's possibly the only person in the world worth changing for in his eyes, so I think there's a lot of development potential there. And Rydia would have to learn to not be so hot-headed and childish if she really wanted to have a msture sort of relationship. They both have a lot of growing-up to do, and I like that they could do it together - I think it's an interesting story to tell, every time.
- Rydia/Kain - I don't see any in-game evidence of this at all, but post-game I could see something developing, especially if Rydia spent a lot of time with Cecil and Rosa. So sure, I'll ship it too. XD
- Rydia, Cecil, and Rosa: I find this dynamic so fucking intriguing it hurts. She was a child, now she's a grown-up; she still has hero-worship towards Cecil and Rosa both, and yet she's changed so much, and she's also probably longing for them to recognize her as an adult rather than a child. With Cecil, I can see it in an almost-shippy sense -- in fact, I can see it for Cecil and Rosa both, from Rydia's eyes. A heavy sense of envy, a sort of longing - Cecil and Rosa are one kind of perfection, and part of her wants it. Another part of her wants to run.
- Rydia/Rosa - another femmeslash that's more interesting for the dynamic. I think Rydia and Rosa both admire each other very much, maybe even envy the other and what the other one has.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)
Not really. It's almost hard to comment on personality since FFII was such a poor translation and didn't have any expressive graphics... maybe I'd fix that first.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
My personality is a lot like hers, normally, so in that kind of situation I'd like to think we'd get along well.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?
All-time favorites, FTW.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone who's new to the fandom?
Anyone who knows me knows how much I like this character. It would be redundant and unnecessary. XD

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
Heck yes.

IRVINE: YOU KNOW I WANT TO

Date: 2007-12-13 06:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] first-seventhe.livejournal.com
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
I love Irvine. I am a big woobie over Irvine. I can't really explain why, either, other than that it's so obvious that everything he does is a big fat front. Who is he underneath the hat and the pick-up lines? Seriously.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Like Selphie, yes and then again no. He drives some important parts of the plot, but for a lot of the rest he's background.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
Irvine TUGS me emotionally. Here's this guy, finally meets his childhood friends only to find they've all forgotten him, and then gets sent on an assignment to shoot his own mum. And what does he do? Swagger and hit on anything female. He needs so much help, guys! He just strikes me as, uh, the normal guy caught up in the military thing and just trying to do his best, when all he really wants is a normal job as, as a waiter or something, and a house with a guitar and now I'm rambling will shut up now.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
Again: I like FF8 tons.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
DO I SHIP IRVINE WITH ANYONE ELSE. HA HA HA. OH MY GOD. I REALLY AM A WHORE.
- Selphie/Irvine: see above for further comfort, but how can you not ship them?
- Seifer/Irvine: FOR WHICH I TOTALLY AND UTTERLY BLAME NAY AND RINA. It's hot! it's snarky! And yet it works, because (a) Irvine's laid-back enough to forgive Seifer, if Seifer earns it; and (b) they both remember.
- Irvine/Rinoa. GUILTY PAIRING. I - I can't explain it, okay.
- In general (take this as the 'platonic' part), I find Irvine/Anyone interactions meaningful, especially poignant ones about remembering and/or fitting in.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)
I think he gets such a hard time about not being able to shoot Edea. THAT WAS HIS MOTHER FIGURE FOR SRS PPL. I don't blame him for freaking out, but I think the game manual made way too big of a deal of him "crumbling under pressure" when they hadn't really told us the whole story.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
We would totally be having mad sex. Shut up.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?
When it comes to male characters, Irvine is one of my favorites; always has been, and probably always will be, especially if I am in the mood to write porn.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone who's new to the fandom?
Probably. He's easy to miss or dislike, but like all the FF8 characters there's so much more underneath if you just look past the stereotyping surface.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
Well, he's kind of the fandom bicycle.

*love*

Irvine is special to me, too. Though my alarmingly strong obsession with Zell drew me into the fandom (and fanfiction in general), Irvine was the first one I wrote for. I agree with your point about him "needing help" from the people around him. That "loner" speech! Buh!

Also: Irvine/Rinoa. what is this sin you are planting in my brainz??? guh guh i love it

Re: IRVINE: YOU KNOW I WANT TO

Irvine just wants friends! He just wants to fit in and for people to like him! He breaks my little woobie heart with it.

See, I am different, as I didn't really care for Zell until fandom (I liked him fine, I just didn't have time for him what with the Irvine and the Quistis going on). And now I have kind of been taken to the Zell side, although that sounds actually kind of dirty in a way. :P

Irvine/Rinoa! It'd be wild and crazy, Irvine taking Rinoa to all the dirty pubs she went to as a rebellious teenager and they'd make out on the dance floor while Rinoa tried to forget that Squall dumped her. IT'S SO BRILLIANT, I FEEL SO GUILTY

Date: 2007-12-13 06:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] first-seventhe.livejournal.com
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
I like Selphie a lot, actually. I like almost all of the FF8 characters because of the depth they show - Selphie is no exception. If she's just been a normal, bubbly, happy girl, she probably would have irritated me as a character; but underneath that all, she's a mercenary. She goes to a school for killers. It's fascinating. How does she do it?

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Eh. She is, in that she grew up with all the orphanage kids, and she does drive some of the plot, but she's never really story-centric.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I wouldn't say I can personally relate to Selphie, but I do like her emotionally. Especially once you start to wonder what's behind that cheerful smile. Selphie likes to blow things up. There's grit under there. I like that.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
FF8 is a fantastic fandom and one of my favorites to write for.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
LOL!
- I definitely ship Selphie/Irvine. Because I love Irvine, and he has this huge gaping gap in him that only wants to belong and wants... Selphie. OK, they're my mushy happy feel-good couple.
- Selphie/Seifer hits the ruthless side of Selphie, when that endless energy turns gritty and nasty and... yeah, I like it. She's also embarrass the fuck out of Seifer, and that makes me happy!
- Selphie, Rinoa, Quistis - I can see the girls trying to get along afterwards, trying to be friends, trying to be normal people. I've already said I love girl characters, and FF8 is one of my favorite dynamics.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)
Well, the bubbly perkiness descends into irritating-ness sometimes, I guess. But that just makes HER DARK SIDE all that much more compelling?

7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
We'd probably be friends, but not great ones. I'm not a social butterfly and I probably wouldn't be able to put up with the constant party-arranging and stuff like that, but Selphie seems like a really fun person to know in real life.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?
...Probably not an all-time favorite, I'll admit.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone who's new to the fandom?
It would depend. Someone who hated the cute, spunky type of character (Yuffie, Rikku, etc) might not like her, and might get a warning. But like I said, Selphie also likes to blow shit up; who doesn't like that?

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
Sort of, but not compared to the rest of the fandom. Squall, Rinoa, Seifer and Quistis basically dominate.

From: [identity profile] first-seventhe.livejournal.com
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
In battle, I will admit, I didn't use him a lot mostly because I liked Nanaki and had a huge girlcrush on Tifa and didn't really like him very much. As a character, though, I thought he was fun, especially when you find out who is behind him. I liked Reeve very, very much.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Yeah, in his own way. A bit player, but an important part, I'll say.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I'm not really sure how one relates to a giant robotic moogle cat, really. So I'll talk about Reeve. He only has a few scenes in FFVII, but I really felt for him - the one guy with a sort-of conscience in the evil corporation. (See my above comments on Celes, I guess!) I like characters like that.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
Ah, FFVII. I love FFVII and always will. The fandom itself kind of scares me these days, especially as I am behind on the Compilation anyway. But I still love FFVII's world, and the characters are beautiful.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
CAIT SITH / RED THEIR LOVE IS SO ANIMALISTIC.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)
He was a bit goofy, but that was kind of his role, wasn't it?

7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
Depends on the situation. If he wasn't trying to screw me over Shinra-Style, I'd totally be joking around and trying to get 800 of those sweet fortunes out of its belly. Also, I love kitties.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?
Not my list, sadly. Which is okay, because he's 9 out of Icca's top ten.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone who's new to the fandom?
I try not to say too much about Cait Sith because of *SPOILER*.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
Not at all, really, unless by 'fanbase' you mean 'Iccas'.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
I love Terra. Did from the moment FFVI opened. She's powerful as all get-out (all hail powerful female characters), she's that unique combination of ridiculously strong and yet terrified of it... yes, I like her.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
She's only the main character of the game.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
Definitely. Terra's struggle to find out who she is and what's in her past is fascinating enough; add in the fact that she's been used as a weapon, and you've got potential for all kinds of trauma. If it isn't evident here yet, I like characters with hidden depths that I can poke out of them.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
See above on FFVI. Still love it, after all these years.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Well, actually... not really. (See above comment on Celes-Terra interaction, though.) I think Terra's journey to find "love" through the platonic, familial love she got from her children makes that part of her character so much more powerful than if she'd found love through "the healing cock" or something like that. "True love." I LOVE the face that Square left it with her finding a family and friends, rather than pairing her off with someone - especially in light of their later games.
The only real Terra ship I can get behind is the total crack ship of Terra/Kain. SHUT UP.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)
Not at all. Her confidence/cowardice balance is pretty much perfect and it makes her real.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
I might have a huge crush on her.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?
Definitely an all-time favorite. I don't write for her much, which is kind of sad. I am realizing from this meme that I've been neglecting FFVI. Boo!

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone who's new to the fandom?
Definitely. Terra - and Celes - are a great contrast to later FF games when you look at their roles. They are the driving forces for the first and second halves of the game. They're both women who were so strong that an evil corporation took and used them both. That is awesome.
I wouldn't hype too much, though, because Terra's story is one of those you just have to let come out.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
I think so, but she seems to often get paired off with Edgar or Locke or Setzer... not that I mind either of those, but I would like some fanworks just dealing with Terra herself. XD

Yeah, that's pretty much why I decided she's awesome. She's kind of my favorite from that game, because I really have a soft spot for people with insane power that frightens the crap out of them.

Also, word on the pairing off thing. I think that is full of awesome that they avoided it. Part of me wanted that to happen for Rinoa--heck with Squall, the kid needs a family.

Also, I need to actually finish FFVI... heh. It's ok, I went and looked up shit so you don't spoil anything for me.

I figured you wouldn't have asked for her if you minded spoilers. But yeah, you do need to finish the game! The end rocks and is also satisfyingly difficult (the last dungeon RULES).

I love Terra. Mostly because she's so freaking powerful and yet so ...soft. Easily-damageable. Fragile. And yet she'd kick your ass without blinking. Seriously, I love that kind of duality. And I love otherworldly girl characters (see also: Rydia).

And, yeah -- all the later games had romance as a factor for their main character, and I just ...I am so glad they avoided that with Terra. Especially because it would've been so EASY to take advantage of her.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
OK, I love Auron. Auron is a fantastic character all around, from pretty much every angle. He's gruff and mean, but he also has a sense of humor. Tormented, but not angsty. Powerful, but (esp in FFX) certainly not all-powerful. Sekrit past, but he doesn't dwell in it. Love.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Yeah, pretty much. Although Yuna and Tidus drive the story, Auron's there for so much of it. It wouldn't have happened that way without him.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I'm not necessarily sure about 'relating' to Auron, but emotionally he certainly grips me like woah. There are so many ways to look at Auron, and so many ways to feel bad for him, but he's not the "feel bad for me" type of character, he's more like "get out of the way so I can kill that fiend", and what makes him like that? Yes, he's intriguing. As a mentor character, even more so. And that's not even touching his past.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
I like FFX a lot. I wouldn't say I'm particularly involved in the fandom per se, but I've written for it occasionally, and X/X2 seem to have some cool fans.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
- Auron/Lulu - if done right, I enjoy this pairing a lot. I like the thought of them being the 'mature' adults on this trip, kind of helping each other shepherd the young adults onward... and yet they've both got these Guardian-related failures in their past to deal with. Plus, they compliment each other: Auron is all physical strength, while Lulu is all magical.
- Auron-Rikku or Auron/Rikku - so often when people try to make this romantic it goes horribly. But even as a platonic thing I think there's a lot of potential there. I like seeing them interact - Rikku's more mature than she looks on the surface, and I can see her being intrigued by Auron in the mentor sense as well. Even if it never turns into an actual ship, I can see them coming to a grudging respect of each other.
- Auron-Yuna - obviously. I see now ship here, just the deep kind of bond that results in Auron maybe telling Yuna stories about her dad's pilgrimage around the fire when everyone else is sleeping.
- Auron-Tidus - again, no real ship, but I like the sort of surrogate-dad thing that might get all confusing in Spira.
- AURON/BRASKA/JECHT. SHIPPY OR NOT. I leave this for last because, uh, I don't have any words to describe how much I like their relationship. Like I said, platonic or buttsex-y, don't care. Gimme.

6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)
Changing Auron's character would kind of mess up the flow of FFX, so I'm not really sure how to answer this. I guess the one thing I would've liked to see more of was his past, or the first pilgrimage, so I guess he could've been more open with that just to gratify me.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
It would depend on what day he met me because some days I'm like Lulu and others I'm like Rikku. So I'd either be in the back with him chuckling softly over the "antics of the young ones", or I'd be annoying him endlessly.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?
He's probably on the 'top ten male characters' list.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone who's new to the fandom?
I am fairly sure I'd fangirl him hard to someone new in the fandom.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
I'd say so. XD

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
I liked Brother because he reminded me of the goofy, fun-spirited people I work with who don't really speak the language well and have to get their ideas across with exaggerated hand gestures. And some people thought it was gross, but I thought his crush on Yuna was cute in X-2. XD

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Not really. He's more like a bit part in FFX - somebody who makes something happen but isn't part of the plot as a whole. And in X2 he's all over the place, but not really a story-driver.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I don't think FFX gave a very good look at Brother emotionally, but in X-2 I think you can really feel for him. He's got this huge crush on the world's savior, his own world is changing (and yet not - he still gets to fly the airship). Since he's not a main character you don't really get to see very much of his emotional side, though.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
I like X and X-2 fandom very much, although I'm not as involved in it as I should be. :P

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
- The Brother-Rikku relationship (platonically) is pretty interesting to me, because they don't seem quite as close as you might expect siblings to be, and they're really quite alike.
- Brother/Yuna - I could see it, although he's such a goofball I'm not sure Yuna could make it a serious and permanent relationship.
- Brother-Buddy and/or Brother/Buddy - yeah, it's possible. Airship hijinks fic!

6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)
Well, you don't really get to see a lot of sides of his personality, since he's a comic-relief foil type character, so it's hard to answer this without knowing a little more about him.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
We'd probably get along. He's goofy and fun, and he totally reminds me of some people from work.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?
Not an all-time favorite, no.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone who's new to the fandom?
The only way I'd warn people would be if the Brother/Yuna vibe was too close to incest for them. (THEY'RE JUST COUSINS!!) Otherwise, as long as you can see that Brother's sweet as well as goofy, you're cool. XD

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
I... don't think so? Although I don't exactly know for a fact, because I'm not super up on FFX-2 fandom?

You played FF9, didn't you?

Freya, then. If you didn't play FF9, hmm.

Mm. mmm. hmm. I'm tempted to say Basch, but in the interest of inspiring our collaborative writing efforts, I'll give you Zell instead. :)

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
You HAD to pick Freya, who is probably my favorite character from this game overall. I fricking love Freya. If you can't tell from the 98234796 postings above, I am really drawn to strong female characters - strong meaning actual battle-strong, meaning powerful, whatever - and in FF9, Freya was a fighter. I loved her backstory, too, and I actually thought she was kind of pretty to boot.
I mean, the other female characters in FF9 were white mages (although they were both Summoners, it wasn't enough to make them "tough" in my eyes) and so Freya fills the non-traditional female role that always kind of draws me in.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Not vitally important. She's part of the main story, but not exactly a main character.

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
I loved the culture of the Dragon Knights, and Freya's powers, and how she's this noble ...ragtag wanderer. She's tragic. I mean, in a way it's sad to have the "heart-broken female knight done in by the power of love", but in Freya's case... there aren't really dramatics, she's just primly and properly fucking sad. She's like this noble angsty piss-ass who is also snarky and witty. (I imagine her with a British accent.)
She's like Squall, in a way, actually, now that I'm writing this, except female and a little less "I wear belts and wallow in my own self-pity". Although not much less. It is Freya.
But she hasn't given up, y'know? She's looking for Fratley, she's looking for answers... she's still fighting. I mean, come on. Angsty Dragoon Knight. HELLOOOOO. buttons: pressed.

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
I'm not too big in FFIX fandom, really. I just didn't enjoy the game or the characters all that much when compared to the other FF games, and I think that hurts my fandom-y participation.

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
- Well, the other character I loved from FFIX was Amarant, and that plus Guardian1 ([livejournal.com profile] spiderflower who is fairly ridiculously talented) has led to me being a closet Freya/Amarant shipper. Um. Offended people may defriend me now! But talk about a hilarious pairing with real potential for awesome humor and growth on both of their parts, and also it would avoid being mushy because both Freya and Amarant would step on something mushy if it approached them. OK, even platonically, I think they're fun.
- Freya/Fratley, but only if they stop being such angsty piss-heads and get over themselves.
- Freya-Beatrix - platonic or otherwise, since I'm a sucker for the girlslash - because Beatrix hurt Fratley, she's the cause of it, she screwed up Freya's life, and where do you go from there?

6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)
I would've liked a little more resolution to her character, maybe less moping and more ass-kicking. Although that has as much to do with the plot as anything.

7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
We would make fantastically strong tea in the mornings and throw things at Amarant when he wasn't looking. And we might cuddle Vivi when no one else is looking, too.

...so i had to edit this to fix HTML and now it's over the limit. Ha ha.

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?
I don't know about all-time favorites ever, but she's my favorite from FF9, so usually when I make the Awesome Character List she ends up on it.

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone who's new to the fandom?
I probably would, but only because she's so overlooked.

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
I don't really think so. So far all I've seen from FF9 fandom is cupcake-sweet Garnet/Zidane fluff. >.<

Edit for awesome HTML skills!

Oh, and haha, regarding HNtDB: I'm going to poke at it today if I get all my end-of-the-year bullshit-work done. If not, I'll be in Vegas without a computer until the end of this week. I'm hoping to take some time over break to poke at both that AND Hunter (AND my other shit), so hopefully we'll have something to post around New Year's, plus or minus. XD
