Date: 2009-03-17 04:31 pm (UTC)Yeah, apparently Paine was supposed to be a female Squall -- I really hope they meant that more on character model and appearance rather than personality.
Squall is angsty, emo, and has nada in the way of people skills. "Whatever" is not a good catch-all response, Squall... plus it makes me think of Alicia Silverstone in Clueless.
Paine on the other hand, speaks -- she lets people know what she's thinking, even if it's a bit brisk. She has bite and a bit of sarcasm, but what she says is true to her, and she means it. She's not being cruel so much as she's just a guarded and careful and cutting right to the heart of the manner. Plus, she says "ice ice baby". There is nothing emo about that.
Squall was a bit unnecessarily cruel in VIII.
