Hey, let's get back to the beats! shoots self Spotify has a featured playlist called "Your Summer Rewind", showing me what I was listening to last summer, so here are some great finds that I fell for last year.

Artist: Foxes
Album/Song to Try: Glorious is the album you want
Style: beats that stay with you, lyrics that inspire fanfiction, in a catchy & addictive package
Thoughts: Foxes is electro-pop, but with a less-cliche, less-love-centric bent than most; it's a bit more floaty, dream-like, mysterious. She ranges from Talking With Ghosts, a beautiful chiller, to Youth or Night Owls Early Birds which are songs to sing along to and dance. Each song sort of comes in and sits with you. Her second album, All I Need, steered itself too far towards the pop side for me, and seems to consist mostly of love songs and trite lyrics, which I'm not a fan of - but you might be. Start with Glorious, though, and go ahead and listen to "Count The Saints" for an idea of what inspired an entire (planned) fanfiction.

Artist: HAIM
Album/Song to Try: Days Are Gone, "The Wire" and "My Song 5"; Something To Tell You, "Want You Back"
Style: 70s rock met 80s pop met 90s R&B and had a party in 3-part harmony
Thoughts: HAIM is 3 sisters and a drummer, which by itself I think is pretty awesome! overall I would call it a sort of soft-rock, but there's a bit of country, a bit electro, a bit of folk; Spotify's description calls out both Fleetwood Mac and Destiny's Child. It's catchy, it's well executed, and it's extremely good.

Drop me anything in the comments and I'll add it to my playlist! Also -- anyone looking for recs for something specific (blues, classic rock, IDK), let me know and I'll see what I can do :3

I'm back with more suggestions from FFXI! This time it's the Chains of Promathia soundtrack. CoP is the second expansion in the game. It's HUGE and has you traveling back and forth all over the world. It's good stuff, but it's soundtrack is actually the one I listen to least. That's because its ending theme is actually in the middle of the tracklist, which effectively makes the soundtrack feel incredibly long. I don't have the patience for that these days. Still, there are some really good tracks on the list that I must share!

Imagine this: you've spent ALL DAY fighting a series of tough, level-capped boss battles. You're exhausted. You've just beat the last boss, only to find your character teleported from the boss's spooky dungeon....and to a beautiful, peaceful meadow where this song is playing. It felt like quite the reward.

Movalpolos

Movalpolos is the Realm of the Moblins, a race of friendly goblins. Goblins are darned cute in this game! Their home is in a mineshaft. This song is just plain fun! Definitely one of the places I loved to visit just so I could hear the song.

Also: you're probably familiar with the song "Distant Worlds" -- it's from this expansion (it plays during the last scene) but is not in the soundtrack, for some odd reason.

i doubt i have anything you don't, but i've always liked aimee mann ('pavlov's bell', 'save me' in particular), and if you wanted some more diverse stuff, namie amuro has a lot of good beats to her stuff (they call her the queen of hip-pop) in songs like 'hide and seek' and 'top secret'. and i'm sure i've recced them before, but 'blackmore's night' is so great and i'll always listen to more of that folk rock style!

oh! what about caro emerald? my dad and i are super into elecro-swing and she's so good, her stuff sounds like 1920s-1930s style and it's fantastic when you are cleaning or doing stuff around the house haha.
