I liked X-2, but yes, it was a lot different than X. I think it was the entire world-change: I mean, they did a good job showing the instability of Spiran politics, but the attitudes of all the people were totally different, not just Yuna and Rikku. I enjoyed playing the game a lot, but I have trouble hunkering down into that fandom. (Although that's mostly because I've never finished the game yet, haha!)

I kinda noticed the whole point of three factions was to play off having three men leading them to correlate to YRP. Bleh.

I think about the only thing I really liked about the game (other than porn to come from it, duh :P ) is the whole comm sphere link thing that lets you talk to people across the world. That was kind of fun.
