Weekend with [livejournal.com profile] lassarina in Chicago: Excellent!

Friday night I made really good time... until I made a lazy stop for food and put myself directly in the beginning of rush-hour traffic. Note to self: YOU ARE AN IDIOT; when making good time on the road, don't ruin it! Anyway, after fighting the mobs of traffic, I got the Meglet, we got the Natalie, and then hit Chipotle. We then returned and basically denned for the night weekend, save a trip out to the Cheesecake Factory, because there is not one near me which means I like to go whenever possible (as I am trying to eat every delicious-looking item on their menu one by one!).

We watched the cutscenes from Lost Odyssey; while I'm not sure I have a really firm grasp on the entire game/plotline from the cutscenes, I can probably pick it up with an FAQ or game script. It was pretty and shiny, and had a lot of pretty awesome characters. I also got Persona 3! We started it but didn't get far at all -- I'm looking forward to picking that one up at home.

Edited to add: Also, Meg's cat molested me in my sleep. Trufax!!

Other than that, there was various fic-writing and lots of delicious drinks to be had. Meg and Nat introduced me to raspberry lambic, and as I am just getting involved in the brewing process here (a beginning brewmistress, to be sure) I'm now kind of curiously poking at recipes.

In other news, apparently when there is no traffic, the drive from me to Chicago actually only takes 5.5 hours, including a stop for food and gas. This probably means that I drive WAY too fast*. I blame [livejournal.com profile] hilldo for distracting me on the phone for the last hour of the drive, which pretty much flew by. Stay tuned for our awesome future projects, guys. After we beat Secret of Mana, of course. There are vampires and wigs and crime-solving. stfu.

In other news, I am a bit ahead for JanNoWriMo; as I've already failed at the write-every-day goal, it looks like my new goal is just to write as many words as freaking possible. I wrote over 1000 words of Seifer/Irvine at Meglet's alone; as it was over the course of an evening I actually split it up to cover Saturday/Sunday (we were up pretty late on Sunday!) to be fairer.

NOW comes the fun of getting ready for Ohayocon! It looks like I will be unable to join [livejournal.com profile] drakonlily this weekend for prep so I am trying to make a list of all the things I need to remember to bring and/or buy myself this weekend in whatever spare time I have. Help me out here, guys (esp Jana, Katy, Drakon, Becky):

For Rydia:
  • Green wig

  • "Bling" for hair -- feathers, beads, flowers, pretty stuff

  • Gold boots + trim (HEY JANA: If you have scraps from the costume that I could use as trim / wrap around the boots / get creative with, save for me kthx??)

  • Tights? (Jana, what does the bottom of the costume even look like?)

  • Whip, if I can make one in time

  • Sexy green/gold makeup from my whore collection

  • Gold/leather belt

  • Belt-purse for phone and $$$

Cruella:
  • Wig

  • Long black gloves

  • Red heels; black boots/shoes as backup if heels don't work with costume (?? Jana, what do you suggest)

  • Little stuffed dalmation to steampunk up with bandaids etc

  • ?? Anything else?

Other:
  • White skirt for Katy

  • Sexy jacket-like halter top for Katy to be Sexy Female Reno for totally hot Reno/Rydia photos yes I am totally doing this to make you wear sexy clothing

  • Goggles!

  • Steampunk Quistis costume

  • CELES COSTUME:
    • Buy trim for shoulder armor and sew it on

    • Fix back of cape - more trim

    • SHOES, WTF OMG.

I'm pretty excited for this convention, and also excited to be bringing people back home for the always-awesome Super Bowl party!

Anyway. Another totally crammed beginning-of-the-week for me. I hate my new Mon-Tues-Wed schedule, but hey, what can you do. Other than bitch about it a bit and then just man up.

* meaning 50 miles per hour AND SAFE, of course

Rydia's going to have a short green skirt similar to the game except I am layering that over dark green tulle because you didn't want your ass hanging out. :D Bring tights. Also, yes, I will bring green fabric.

I'd say bring crazy sexy shoes for Cruella, but I think the skirt is long enough that it's not going to matter terribly what the shoes are.

Sweet! As it gets closer I am less bothered about my ass hanging out, but I like the way that will look in my head!

How does that meet up with the corset? Basically, I want to make a little bag / pouch / wallet thing that I can keep my money and phone in -- will I have room to clip that to the top of the skirt?

I will bring both - I AM driving - and then I can decide based on how comfy I need to be.

<3 <3 SO AWESOME.

The corset will be over the top hem in the skirt, so I'd say bring a belt. I can tell Linda to bring one of her brown garb belts, as they'll fit you better than mine will. We have some nifty embossed ones from Renfest.

I actually have a brown/gold neat leather/stitched belt, that might go with the "gold" theme of my boots. I'll bring that and we can just see what works best!

Doesn't Cruella have that cigarette holder?

YESSSS. You're right. Hmm, alright, cheapest way to imitate a cigarette holder ...?

Is it sad that all I can think of is a straw?

...what if I colored the straw with a black Sharpie??

Or duct taping the cig to it if it doesn't fit

Oh damns, you should have told me! I have a giant costume cigaretted holder from my Holly Golightly costume, but it's at my parents because I didn't think to bring it.

I do have a small cigarette holder but it's real and I use it for my cloves (which are actually nice smelling).

I mean, clearly I'm trying to die of a heart attack later in life. XD

Clearly I need to start googling photos of Cruella to see what else I'm forgetting. >.>

I'm going to be bringing some costume jewelry with me for people, because I have a lot of it. FYI.

meaning 50 miles per hour AND SAFE, of course

I hope Katy is a safer driver. Since it only takes you 5.5 hours from CHICAGO and I live like TWO HOURS from Chicago and it takes me four to get to Columbus alone. The math clearly doesn't add up!

From: [identity profile] first-seventhe.livejournal.com
There's also the north/south thing to consider. Cleveland's more north, so it's technically closer to Chicago -- it's a pretty straight line drive down the 80/90. I mean, Google said it should take 6 hours, so I'm only cutting off about 45 min (considering the stop for food/gas).

Date: 2009-01-19 04:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] venefica-aura.livejournal.com
Point, I'm a little farther south and have to go through Columbus anyway.

Still.

OMG ITS LIKE GENDERQUEER RENO/RYDIA. WHICH WORKS CAUSE MY HAIR IS KIND OF RED RIGHT NOW NO LIE.

Okay, I can bring for that: a black skirt, a black suit jacket, or black pants (which would work best, I think). Anything else? Did anyone actually get those steampunk goggles cause I could throw those on my head, too.

About steampunk!Ellone: I wasn't planning on bringing this? I don't know where the shawl is and my hair is way too long/wrong color now. So maybe we can just cut me out of this one, because I am bringing Relena. That gives me three costumes + Reno (and we can of course substitute Reno in there anytime).

That is all I can think of, as long as someone can let me use their laptop on Sunday to file my weekly unemployment claim haha.

Date: 2009-01-19 06:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] first-seventhe.livejournal.com
Do you want me to bring a white dress shirt, or do you have one? Because I think we're pretty close in size. (EDIT) I also have goggles! They are now on my list of things to bring, because otherwise I WILL FORGET.

Also, I think we're stopping at my place on Sunday before the party, so as long as there's not a specific time you have to file it, you can just do it from my house!

I can bring a white dress shirt! Will go on my list. Anything else I need for Reno? The suit jacket a yes or a no?

No specific time, I just have to do it sometime on Sunday or else they won't give me monies. And I need the monies haha.

I am excited about the script! Although if we start anything, it really should be Sir Hilldo...

From: [identity profile] first-seventhe.livejournal.com
Hey, we don't HAVE to do anything. I'm just saying, it's still out there and unfinished... ;)

Date: 2009-01-19 08:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hilldo.livejournal.com
You make a compelling argument. In that case who's giving commands and who is narrating (so we know who to blame for not starting it hehe). Technically, it's your turn to narrate, but if you like writing commands vs. story and I'm down with the narration, sucka.

Date: 2009-01-19 08:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] first-seventhe.livejournal.com
I think it is my turn to narrate. I'll try to get a start on that tomorrow morning, then, sucka. I don't really have a preference as to which I prefer, but you're usually funnier with responses.

Date: 2009-01-19 08:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hilldo.livejournal.com
I assume responses = narrating? Cause I think you are funnier with commands than I am by far. Who else would consider "PONIES!!!" to be a command. :D

Date: 2009-01-19 09:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] first-seventhe.livejournal.com
HAHAHAHA. I actually meant commands, but then again I think you are funnier than I am at both parts. I simply add, uh, finesse. Or something.

Date: 2009-01-19 09:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hilldo.livejournal.com
Well fuck. How about I stick with the narrating part then (unless you really want to do it...I ain't trying to steal your part) with the caveat that you help clean up my 100% awful sentence structure etc as we go.

Date: 2009-01-19 10:28 pm (UTC)

Cheesecake Factory!!!!!

Date: 2009-01-20 11:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jennyclarinet.livejournal.com
Hey, did you go to the Cheesecake Factory in Skokie? Because if you did, those are my old stomping grounds from when I was at Northwestern! I went there with my mom after my graduate recital.

Actually, the Cheesecake Factory here is on the way home from where I teach on Mondays and Tuesdays. But thankfully, it's usually a zoo whenever I am driving that way, so I am not tempted to stop for a carry-out piece of cheesecake.

On my way home from Nashville though, I was really craving it, and as I drove through Cinci, I actually spotted the Cheesecake Factory from the highway! So I got off at the next exit, turned around, went in, and bought a slice of the fresh strawberry-my favorite!
