Oh, mine hasn't either. I've just *mostly* been working on "Crack AU". And I actually have a spreadsheet keeping track of my real numbers... I just, uh, wanted to make something really fug in MS Paint.
I'm at a little over 4k, but mine keeps coming in chunks rather than daily, haha. Plus, now that I am not at work, I don't have the structure I used to have to get me writing daily. I'll have to exercise some self-discipline!
The entire story has been an interesting exercise, actually. Zell's pretty smart in the game, if a little over-eager and immature, so turning him into an over-eager manager is just a bit of an exercise in writing. The hardest part, so far, honestly, has been keeping Seifer's mouth shut when interviewing for a job. It is hard to write a Seifer who isn't constantly making fun of Zell, but in this particular case, he needs the job, bad.
I like Zell, but I think I like making fun of him a little too much. It's part of his charm. It's like he's wearing a walking "Kick Me!" sign some days.
It probably doesn't help that I haven't touched Final Fantasy VIII in years, mostly because I really wanted to hit both Squall and Rinoa the last time I tried playing.
Luckily, Squall and Rinoa aren't in this piece at all! Unfortunately, it's because Rinoa and Selphie are in their own AU band, and Squall becomes a groupie.
Rinoa and Selphie are in their own band; Quistis is their manager, and Squall carries all of the heavy things for them and pretends that it's for the pay and not because he has a crush on Rinoa. XD
Now Quistis I can see being a good manager. The kind that you love to push to be more sociable but would never fire because she's the only organized person you know and would be totally lost without her.
I'm planning on writing it, because it kind of happens in the same goofy AU-verse as the Seifer/Irvine, so they'd go together. Plus I think it would be absolutely hilarious to write. Hopefully some time this month... although this S/I piece is turning out way longer than I expected, and may eat up all my words!
This always happens to me with everything big that I try to write. Especially AUs, for some reason. That "pirate" AU I started a while back turned into a three-part monstrosity. XD
Yay for productivity! :) And for being ahead of your goals.
I'm doing pretty well, too -- only about 1k words on two projects, but I've done something productive every day and so far, so good on posting one story a week. I haven't come up with any graphical way to keep track of my progress yet, although hilldo's Excel comment is tempting me. I am far too fond of making graphs in Excel...
