seventhe: (Coffee: I Own You)
[personal profile] seventhe
Just from reading stuff on and off - I've been thinking about giving up coffee on a trial basis, to see if it helps with my hypoglycemia. (I doubt I could ever give up coffee permanently, because I LOVE IT SO MUCH.)

I can go entire weekends without drinking it and not get a headache, so I'm not really worried about that... I'm not really worried about anything, honestly, but I just want to see if it helps me not be so blood-sugar-retarded.

Thoughts?

I second tea! Coffee effs me the fuck up, so I don't drink it m'self ^_^ It's weird, like... caffeine doesn't wake me up, it just raises my heart rate. So I'll drink an espresso, still be falling asleep, except I'll feel like I'm dying because my heart is just beating really fast, which is kind of the opposite of what's supposed to happen when you're falling asleep D-:

My favorite kind of tea is hoji-cha; it's a roasted green tea! I also really like the Republic of Tea brand Blackberry Sage tea. Funfax: that also makes a delicious iced tea! So... yeah. Drink tea!

(Another fun alternate: hot chocolate. That's not really going to help the blood sugar thing though I don't think XD)

I have a lot of tea at my desk for last semester when I wanted to die. Tea = my stress relief. OOH OOH ALSO I HAVE A LOOSE LEAF TEA MUG. Jim and Mary got it for me and I have to say, loose tea is awesome! If you have never had it I WILL MAKE SOME FOR YOU THIS WEEKEND!!

I LOVE LOOSE LEAF TEA!! Okay so my ex and I were kind of like tea snobs (him more than me though XD) and we drank tea a lot... he has like 5 Japanese-style teapots and makes loose leaf tea often. I DO ENJOY IT, I MUST SAY. (Though I personally am a bit too lazy to do the whole tiny-teapot thing most of the time XD) WHITE TEA is especially delicious, loose!!

I have just the mug, which is perfect because I am a terrible tea drinker: aka I like my tea really really sweet, which means either loaded up with sugar (bad) or sweetener (worse). Loose tea I can drink a mug of without wanting the sweetness, though, because it's delicious.

Before this I was not a tea snob at all. I drank like Lipton fruit flavored crap (stuff I could add a pack of sweetener to and it would taste like candy!)

UGHHHH LIPTON

Hahaha XD Strangely enough, I really don't like sweet tea. I have the biggest sweet tooth known to man, but I just really really like plain, bitter tea! With iced tea, I'm more willing for sweetness, but with hot tea I'm like, THE STRONGER THE BETTER!

Unfortunately, the tea snobbery has made me picky about green teas. I can't stand any form of green tea that has extra wacky flavors added to it, like citrus or whatever. I'm all like GIVE IT TO ME AZN STYLE, YO! Black teas on the other hand - I looove fruit-flavored black teas :9

NOPE I am a cop-out who likes the fruit flavors and stuff like that. I think it's actually that I don't really like the base bitter taste of tea? Although I LOVE black coffee, so I have no idea why I don't like plain old tea. But I need to have another flavor in there.

don't hate me

I won't judge you for your beverageal preferences! Okay okay, I actually only like plain green teas (of which there are many varieties, like white tea and hoji-cha), but I can't stand plain black tea. I actually really dislike most black teas; I only like the ones with nice fruit flavors like raspberry or blackberry :3 Furthermore, I must admit that I really hate chai. One other random tea I do like though, is mint tea. That's the one tea I do like with sugar in it! The first time I had it was in France, and so whenever I drink sweet mint tea it reminds me of that ;_____;

Ha, I have two fancy porcelain Japanese-y tea sets! One's black and minimalist, and the other is like white with blue bamboo paintings on it. So I totally get you. The local apothecary in my hometown (yes, it's an apothecary, that's what they call it) has this badass gunpowder green tea that is like BAM. AWAKE.

Gunpowder tea is so cool! I am also easily amused XD I need to invest in some Japanese tea sets myself; all the ones I used with my ex were his XD And even though I said I'm usually too lazy to go through with that whole song and dance, it does taste really good when prepared like that!

I probably don't make it EXACTLY like I should, I mean, I just throw my loose leaf in a teaball and pour hot water over it, usually from the microwave these days as I don't have a stove (I miss having REAL BOILED WATER) but it is fun. I do it more when I have people over. TEA PARTIES. Only more awesome.

You may remember that, a while back, I tried to quit coffee. I do enjoy tea, especially Chai tea with skim milk, but I really really love coffee, and I just couldn't quit for long. However, I'm still sometimes getting acid reflux from drinking coffee, which is not good for the old esophagus, so I really should cut down.

Actually, I started drinking green tea this week. I even found articles saying that green tea may aid in weight loss!

Let me know how it goes for you.

I don't think I could ever give up coffee for good -- but I put sugar in it, and I'm wondering if it's screwing with me more than I know.

My dad has acid reflex problems and was a major coffee addict. He cut back and only drinks low acid decaff, which they have. So. That's how he did it!
