i am such a baby

so I am bawling my eyes out, and I have been for the past thirty minutes or so, because we caught a bird in one of the things we had set out to catch chipmunks.

he probably broke his wing and he probably won't make it, but we've wrapped him up in blankets and tucked him in a box like we all used to do as kids when the birds hit the window.

I. I just. I am such a baby but I can't even feed my birds any more and not only do I have to trap chipmunks, now I'm hurting the birds too? I hate this.

I'm fucking 27 years old and I shouldn't be crying about a bird, but I am, and that's that.

There's nothing wrong with caring about something that touches your heart, even if it's wildlife. The fact that it's a real, living entity only makes it more worth feeling that way over.

And I'm a person who hates himself when he remembers opening up to someone 6 years ago.

It's not shameful to cry about a bird. Last week my roommate's pet rat died and it hit me really hard. I had grown really attached to her - she was very curious and energetic, loved to climb all over my shoulders and tickle me with her whiskers and lick my hands and be heinously adorable in every possible way.

Animals possess an innocence that humans don't always have. I don't think I've experienced the death of a human whom I've actually been close to, but I have cried hard over the deaths of the animals I have known. It's especially hard when you feel yourself responsible in some way, because there's no way anyone can say the creature deserves death - and yet, it happens anyway. It's a difficult thing to reconcile, and I'm not sure I have any answers to make it easier.

*hugs* I hope the bird gets better. At least you did what you could.
