Nov. 19th, 2008 09:04 amMy mum came out of her surgery fine yesterday, but she is going to be in a lot of pain for the next couple weeks as her throat heals. She can barely talk -- she croak-whispered an "I love you" into the phone last night, but that was all. Please send her some good thoughts and warm wishes.
In other, more cheerful news, I've been looking into 5Ks!
jennyclarinet and
hilldo know this! I know that
katmillia and
darcenciel have both expressed interest in running a race like this -- is any particular month better/worse for you guys?
Apparently it si hard to find races in Ohio!
This is the first one I found. It's the "Star Trax 5K Night Run", in Salem OH. I thought hey! how cool! a 5K at night! It's apparently a certified candle-lit course. The run would be Saturday, 08/01/2009, and starts at 9:00pm.
The bad news is, Salem is about 1:20 away from where I actually live... a bit far for a race? I mean, I'd do it, because y'know, candlelight and all that. but still.
The next one I found is in Solon, OH, which is closer to me. It's called the "Yates 5K" and the proceeds from the race go towards the ALS Chapter in Ohio. The race is Sunday, 06/07/2009 and starts at 8:30 am.
There is a Rocky River Nature Center 5K/10K on Saturday, May 16, 2009. I like this date because my birthday is May 03, and how awesome would it be for me to run a 5K for my birthday? I mean, really, that's a goal I can totally get behind. This one's in Cleveland.
And this one is Saturday, May 09, 2009. It sounds like you actually get to run in the Metroparks (Cleveland's awesome state park system), which would be awesome! 9:00am.
This is in Cuyahoga Falls, on September 20th 2009. Cuyahoga Falls is really close to us, so that's cool.
So anyway. Who is still interested? What months are good? Are there any specific causes you guys would like to support or look into?

Date: 2008-11-19 02:47 pm (UTC)But whatever the case, if I went out there, I would probably fly out Thurs night/Fri morning so expect me to mooch off of your guest room for the weekend. ;) I thought that wedding I had was going to interfere, but if it comes down to taking vacation for this or taking vacation for my batshit cousin who can't schedule events that are in any way convenient for family members, this wins. So I'm not even factoring that crap in.

Date: 2008-11-19 03:02 pm (UTC)Do you have anything going on in May? As much as I like the candlelit one, I really like the idea of doing something like this for my birthday (we could set candles up in our yard and have our own "midnight run"... while drunk)

OK SO WHAT WOULD I NEED
A wig with that weird braid, a blue dress with black trim, and those green tights?
I ACTUALLY KIND OF HAVE A CHANCE AT MAKING THIS COSTUME

Date: 2008-11-19 05:35 pm (UTC)I tried the speed interval running last night, and UGH! I felt gross. It kicked my ass so hard. But you know I'm going to be doing it again!
Last week, I forgot my gym bag, which has my indoor shoes, MP3 player and padlock in it. So I had to trust that no one would steal my purse out of my locker, run on the treadmill with my dirty outdoor shoes, and had no music to listen to. But that was the day when I ran on the way to work, so I was glad that I hadn't forgotten any of my shower things or work clothes!
Oh, and here's a little advice: make sure you keep your toenails clipped. On Sunday, I took of my shoe and had a bloody sock. My toenail was actually bleeding! Gross.

Date: 2008-11-19 06:00 pm (UTC)I agree -- if we really do get in shape, we could run a few of them over the course of next year! We'd have actual time goals and milestones and everything! :)
