Any thoughts on ways to get onesself out of bed in the mornings?

I don't just mean waking up, I'm very easy to wake up; I mean actually getting out of the bed rather than hitting the snooze button for a literal hour

I wish I could give you something more philosophical, because getting out of bed is HARD, but honestly the only thing that ever works for me is putting my alarm on the other side of the room. This way even if I snooze it I have to get back up out of bed to shut it off the second time, and by that point going back to bed feels pretty silly.

have an annoying roomate that always sets 1000000 alarms and have them very loud and he NEVER gets up for them so you're forced to get up your damn self and beat his ass

--shit, I mean, I got nuthin'.

first time having roomies I HATED it.

what was worse, they wouldn't be there to turn off the alarm. it was one of those digital ones that would. not. stop.

it was the only time I would cross boundaries and go into the room to turn it off, because i did NOT plan on listening to that shit for hours.

When I was a teenager, I used to put my alarm clock physically across the room so I had to actually get out of bed to turn it off.

Seconding and thirding putting it across the room. It's the only thing that works for me when I have to get up for work. If it's next to me, my brain will ignore all logic and snooze it repeatedly.

I used a wake-up call service for a while. My phone wasn't anywhere near the bed, so that helped. This costs money, however. Otherwise I agree with putting the alarm across the room.

Annoying alarm on the other side of the room works for me. My biggest problem is always potato-ing in bed for ages on my laptop or something, so just not doing ANYTHING til I'm out of bed and dressed helps that. Hard habit to keep, though.

I'm going to offer a completely different suggestion from the other commenters: bribe yourself! Have a thing you will do that works for and with your morning routine that you won't be able to if you keep hitting the snooze button. It could be things like breakfast (this one can be a double help if having time to put together a breakfast you like helps with later food-intake-related issues in some way, e.g. eating a comparatively good breakfast helps with not spending money on eating out for lunch/not eating something unhealthy for you at lunch) or having time to put some other nice thing in your morning routine (more time in the shower or even taking a bath, maybe, or time for gaming? Or spoiling cats?) That is about the only way I have ever found to make myself get out of bed in a non-misery-inducing fashion.

(Alternately, my self-indulgent side says that if you can hit the snooze button for an hour and still get to work on time, you might be better off just sleeping in that hour or at least part of it--- set the alarm a bit later and see if you feel more rested/more like getting up?)

My wife bangs the loft and won't leave me alone until I'm sitting up.

I am a bad example.

i second the bribe, but that's because i only get myself up when i do because i only get my two cups of coffee if i get up at that time. otherwise, i have to wait for coffee until i get to school, and my train commute is over an hour. that's way too long for coffee!!!!!!!!!11!eleven

Xena music gets me up better than anything else these days, because it conjures up a "badass lady being glorious" kind of feeling and then I can apply that to the task of making myself vertical. But yeah, mostly I just set 4 alarms and it works for the most part. And putting something across the room might help too.
