this just in: sev is incredibly nerdy
Jan. 20th, 2011 10:53 amSo I was making a schedule up at work, while waiting for my batch to finish up. My real goal with it was to try to figure out how much time I would have for homework - where it could fit in, and what things could potentially get in the way of it. So I made up a schedule, blocking off the time I spend at work, doing other things, etc. It turned out pretty cool.

You'll have to forgive the awesome quality due to screencapping.
I lumped in time for getting dressed, eating breakfast, and driving into "associated with work" and "associated with class", namely for honesty's sake. I don't want to look like I work a 12-hour day. But I do HAVE a 12-hour day, 4 days a week, because it isn't like I can just NOT DRIVE TO WORK. The "associated with" sections aren't exactly optional.
I blocked off 6 hours initially for homework. I think that's optimistic. But for a 6-hour class I thought 6 hours on assignments was a good start. I am assuming that as the semester goes on I'm going to be losing some of that "free time" and maybe some "sleep".
I did mark up what averages to 8 hours of sleep a night. I realize I don't always get that much. This part is flexible; I can stay up late if needed, and I can catch up on weekends if I want. But I've noticed that when I'm not getting this much sleep, I get sick. Seriously, frequently sick. So the goal is to stay as close to that 8-hour-average as possible.
The gym numbers are also an average, or an "ideal" maybe. I'm sure I won't be able to stick to it as well as I'd like. But that's my workout plan right now.
OBVIOUSLY, stuff is flexible. The only gym thing that can't be moved is yoga because it's a class. The errands/chores can happen at any time that day that's convenient. I can stay up if I need to. This is just a generalization.
Please notice, this is why there are nights I just don't even turn my computer on. I don't stay up late writing, I don't browse LJ/DW, and it's because there are days I just don't have enough time to do so. Those little scraps of free time get to be MY time.
Also the cleaning is a little optimistic, lol. It looks like I clean a lot but really I just do what I have to so that the kitchen doesn't rot out, and catch up on the weekends. Ha ha ha. FML.
So that's my life this semester!

Date: 2011-01-20 06:36 pm (UTC)That was kind of my goal - see how much time I have, and then I'll know better how I want to use it. Assuming I can keep to a workout schedule and a homework schedule, this is what I have, so that I know what happens if I want to go somewhere for an evening, or practice drums, or just crash and watch movies. :P

Date: 2011-01-21 10:32 pm (UTC)But it really showed me that I have to try to get to bed an hour earlier and get up an hour earlier.
It was a great exercise in self-discovery though. Hopefully it will help me get more disciplined with time, seeing how little of it I actually have.
