Another annoying ripoff of twitter/facebook/EVERYTHING.

My brother just emailed me and was like OO YOU'RE FOLLOWING ME? [as it automatically has you follow people in your contacts] WHAT OTHER GOOGLE SERVICES DO YOU USE? and I was like OH GOD DO NOT FIND MY ACTIVITIES ON THE INTERNET PLZ.

So the answer is: creepy.

I use picasa for my fanart collection and con photos. XD I use flickr for other stuff. I use photobucket for icons and bad photos and misc. I am very much a containment type.

I like the threadsy model better. I don't want EVERYONE to follow EVERY ONE of my activities. I do want to be able to read my twitter and facebook and email in the same place. Half the reason I'm one most of these things is I have different groups of friends to keep up with.

I think google ALMOST had the right idea, but they didn't account for people that do a lot of different things online and want to be able to monitor them but don't want everyone on their email list to freaking see everything they do.

Very bottom of your email page, there are tiny links? One says "turn off buzz". Click it. Radar off. I did this after disconnecting my picasa and reader, just in case.

Wow, am I glad that I pretty much already segregated my main gmail account to fandom/LJ activity only.

Yeah, it does. I was like "wtf" because while my email is pretty much 100% fandom or at least just internet people, some people have fallen out of fandom or otherwise not in contact much with me anymore.

Like, do I seriously have to go through and clean my address book for these things? Gah.

Ugh. That's one of the things I hate most about Facebook: this assumption that you want everyone in your life to know every move you make. I am really disappointed if Google is getting into the same act.

Aww, shoot! For some reason I was thinking about Facebook. I REALLY hate what they did with the Recent Activity since December. It's stalkery and YOU CAN'T SHUT IT OFF.

But in the event I'll dive into Google I'll keep this in mind. Yeesh.

What really bugs me: Recent Activity is "mandatory:" short of setting everything to "Only Me" by default it's on your wall, on your friend's feed- every comment, every photo you're tagged in, every status you liked (and the status you liked is on there, too!).
