So, my friends! I have a PS3. I have had a PS3 for a year. It is the most expensive Netflix-streaming device in the history of electronics. I only own one game for it and that is FFXIII (at least I have beaten that *SHAME FOREVER*). Pretty much
safety_caesars and I use it to watch horrible things on Netflix and the single BluRay that's in this house right now (Sherlock) which isn't even mine and, you know what, this is embarrassing enough. I'll stop.
Anyway. I'm looking for some video game recs for PS3.
I thought about FFXIII-2, but for secret reasons that are secret I am actually looking for something slightly different from Final Fantasy, for next year. However, if you're wondering what kind of games I enjoy (aka: will actually play for more than 4 minutes), the answer is: Final Fantasy type RPGs, and Plants vs Zombies.
I've played Halo and Halo II, but I'm not a huge shooty-type fan -- they were more fun to play with friends, and I like games that are I am exhausted from work and want to stare at a pretty thing and maybe make fire happen type games, not social ones. I adore stuff like Civilization, Age of Empires, Command & Conquer, even SimCity, stuff like that; but most of what I've played has been for computer, and it seems to be a more intuitive way to play those kinds of games? Uhhhhhhhh................ I'M NOT A GAMER, OKAY
But I'd like to have a couple more fun things to dabble in and around. So throw some ideas at me!

Date: 2012-11-01 01:13 am (UTC)If you like open world, exploring, let's destroy a thing type games, I highly recommend Prototype, which is set in NYC and yes, you can climb all the buildings. There's a second game that I haven't played yet, so I can't rec that one positively or negatively. Along the same line, I really like Assassin's Creed II. I've played the original and can really only recommend it for the context it'd give you for the second game--the gameplay itself is often broken and needlessly frustrating. The same goes for AC: Revelations. I haven't played AC: Revolutions yet and I only just got my copy of ACIII, so I can't say good or bad things about either of those yet.
LA Noire is a pretty decent mix of the open world and political/rpg type games--bonus: since it's by the same crew that did the GTA games, driving is an exercise in hilarity. I've had to walk away from the TV a few times because I was laughing so hard I was sobbing. No, I don't know why running over a fire hydrant is that funny, but it is.
I would also really really mega-really no-seriously-I-mean-it recommend Journey, which is available as a download (only $10!). I'm not sure what I could say about this game that wouldn't entirely ruin the experience (and it is an experience). It's a short little game, should only take you about an hour to complete a first run through, and will probably make you tear up (unless you're me, in which case you will cry and smile through your tears and promptly start up a second go around). Journey is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played, visually and even though I've played it countless times at this point (no, really, I stopped counting), I still like to pull it up and just explore the game for the sake of looking.
Speaking of downloads, it's possible to download a ton of PS1 games for the PS3--like Chrono Trigger. :D (Which is now available for Android smartphones, what is our life.)
Since you say you're not a fan of shooty games, I'd say stay away from Uncharted (which are great games, but are kind of awkward to play at times). There's a lot of Indiana Jones goodness in it, so it might be worth trying though. (I love Uncharted, I really do, but it does occasionally drive me up a wall.)
I would say stay away from Demon Scrolls, which I picked up because "Yay, Atlus!" but which turned out to be a terrible fucking game, holy shit. Bad, bad design.
Simulation games wise, Sims 3 is available on the PS3! Having only played the console version though, I have no idea how it compares. Command and Conquer is also available!
