murderstomps into the lecture three days late with starbucks what's UP CHUCKLEFUCKS it's time for your favorite kissy event of the year: Final Fantasy Kiss Battle 2023 is a GOOOOO!

This event is open to everyone, even if we aren't DW circlefriends! (feel free to friend me too; i promise i'm not crazy ~~that's a lie~~ but at least i'm sometimes funny). If you aren't on DW, you can still play via anon or OpenID!

The Kiss Battle is simple. Players leave prompts in comments under each specific fandom, using generalized fandom nomenclature: a relationship of some sort, and a concept to inspire other players.

For romantic relationship kisses, we use X / Y
For platonic relationship kisses, we use X & Y
Absolutely open to relationships with more than 2 people involved! X / Y / Z (/ A / B ...) welcome to this party!
Prompts can be a word, a sentence, an image, a song lyric; it's a suggestion, rather than a request
it's a kiss battle! there will be smooches!

Players then go looking for smoochin' prompts they'd like to fill. Fills can be fic, art, interpretive dance, whatever you're inspired to; they can be filled in a responding comment, or as a link (to AO3, tumblr, etc). FILLS GOTTA HAVE A KISS IN 'EM. IT'S A KISS BATTLE. What counts as a "kiss" is up to you, though -- you can be creative!

Fills should use the comment header to let people know what the fill is; please use a format like "X / Y, (title), (rating), (any content warnings that might apply)"

It's a very simple game, and is meant to be played in good faith without anybody being a shitbag about pairings or characters. We're all too old for this.

Someone’s painted a mural of the flower girl in lower Midgar, in what used to be below the Plate before the plate was torn open. Sunlight slants down through cracks in the metal sky, catching the painted woman and her armful of flowers in its beam, and Tifa is frozen for a second between one step and the next, wondering who painted this. One of slum folk who knew her, maybe. Surely not one of the pilgrims who’ve decided she’s a god. They couldn’t capture her smile like that, the mischief only half-hidden around its edges. They never saw her face, much less the way it looked when she dissolved into laughter. But they’ve left gifts, withered flowers and candles long burnt out, scattered near the image’s feet.

Tifa steps closer, without conscious decision, and touches the wall: cold brick, dry paint streaked with soot.

“I miss you,” she says. “You used to talk so much about the future, didn’t you? I know you never wanted this. I wish I could know whether you chose it.”

Nothing material happens – no breeze to trouble the stillness of the lower city, no crackle of static – but there’s a feeling like the change in a long-closed room when a door is opened, and a scent in the air like the jungle outside Mideel, green growing things mingled with the sharpness of unrefined mako.

She turns. There’s only the desolate street behind her, but before she can muster the will to shake off the illusion and walk away, someone invisible touches her hand.

She breathes out carefully, as quietly as she can. There’s a spell here, and she’s afraid to break it by moving, or by saying the name that’s on the tip of her tongue. A strong, slender hand cups her cheek, and sturdy cloth brushes her legs. When she closes her eyes, she can feel the gardener’s callouses on that phantom palm, the impression of a brass button against her bare midriff, and then – careful, almost hesitant – the press of soft lips against the corner of her mouth.

She turns toward the kiss, mind gone blank and heart beating suddenly too fast, and lets her mouth slip open. She’s only imagined this, and it’s not like she imagined – more sense-impression than anything else, but still clumsier, less perfect, more real. There’s the edge of teeth, the tip of a tongue. Ghostly fingers run through her hair, almost warm, almost substantial. Aerith. She’ll let herself think it. This is her. Aerith curls a hand around the back of her head, tugging her closer, and Tifa wants to imagine this can last – but the feeling in the air shifted again, like that open door closing, the tactile illusion of well-mended fabric and warmth and skin against her skin all growing thin and tenuous. It’s that thought that lets her finally move – reaching wrap her arms around the place where Aerith would have been before she left the world, holding tight to the shape of her, until the scent of jungle vanishes and she’s left holding empty air.

She lets go. Opens her eyes, touches her mouth, looks around at a city unchanged. The woman in the mural surveys the street, a laughing green-eyed memory. The only presence there is what the artist and the pilgrims poured into it, but – that’s not nothing, Tifa thinks. She still can’t guess what Aerith knew or chose, but there’s a thing she’s kept with her, a pink ribbon that Aerith wound ‘round and ‘round her wrist on the night before she left. She thinks about leaving it with the offerings, but that feels wrong. She’s not a supplicant. It’s not what Aerith would have wanted. Still, she always did have the sense, somewhere in the back of her mind, that she didn’t keep it for herself – that she only ever meant to hold onto it until it was time to give it back.

She unwinds it now, loop by loop, and wraps it instead around the dried stems of a bundle of yellow flowers that she gathers from the shrine. She’ll keep them with her until she’s out of Midgar, and then she’ll give them to the sky.

Hello. I have an account here which I often forget.

If you want forbidden trivia for Final Fantasy III, I'm your man. I sold my soul to that game and am now hell-bent on ringing every bit of lore or trivia that I can from it. The first 3 games in general are my main wheelhouse, though I'm trying to get to/through the SNES entries as well as spinoffs like Tactics.

Ingus is my favorite character, but I generally gravitate towards the "fourth member" archtype (Leon, Faris, etc) though not always. Villainwise, I am really fascinated by Garland's portrayal in the early Dissidia games and the Emperor is fun. The armored dudes in general tend to be fun.

I'm not deep enough into other fandoms to really say that I'm part of them. Closest is probably Nintendo in general.
